I’m using Bunpro for the first time in conjunction with Genki. Why is Bunpro saying this is wrong?
It isn’t strictly incorrect but in general (probably depends a bit on the person as well) if you are using ○○ですか you would use a 。and not a ? since the use of か already makes it a question. If on the other hand you are not using か then you need to use a ?so there isn’t confusion about whether it is a statement or a question.
I’ll add the answer to our data set and make sure there is a little information about it.
I’m a bit confused here:
- If it isn’t strictly incorrect, why did BP mark it wrong? Why not accept it or at least explain why it was marked wrong.
- I’m further confused by the fact the “?” is colored white which makes me think the OP did NOT enter it. And if OP did not enter it, then again, why was it marked wrong if BP already had the “?” there?
NOTE: I don’t recall ever having to enter a period or question mark in my answers…could be wrong but I don’t recall ever doing it.
The ? and . are there; it wasn’t something I added. I think Jake meant that since the ? was present, then the casual form should have been used here. Which is still very confusing, and the review section really needs more context T^T
There are two main questions here. Is it incorrect, and why is it marked incorrect. To answer both questions simply -
Is it incorrect? No, it is perfectly grammatically acceptable.
Why was it marked incorrect? It was marked incorrect because there are hundreds of grammar points that ‘could’ simply have です or ですか on the end of them, but we don’t usually allow grammar point ‘stacking’ in reviews, as we need to input every single one of these in the system, and it would result in us needing to create thousands if not 10’s of thousands of additional correct answers to account for people not just adding です or ですか, but also things like の or なの and many others. For this one particular question though, I do think the question mark in there makes it a bit confusing, so will add a hint in there to trigger with ですか.
