Why あげたあ?

why does adding あ make the meaning change to given to me
(the questions said あげた means to give away)

also if あげたあ is not used for someone of higher status then what is?

Pretty sure what you typed doesn’t mean anything. The answer is くれた

あげたあ is not a word. It’s in red in the screenshot, it’s showing what you typed, not the correct answer. There should be a button you can click on to show the correct answer.

also if あげたあ (sic) is not used for someone of higher status then what is?

It’s not about status, it’s about in-groups and out-groups. Look up soto vs. uchi. Here’s the wikipedia article, but there might be better sources.

Short version:

In-group → out-group: あげる
Out-group → in-group: くれる
Out-group → out-group: あげる
