Why な?

I stumbled upon this sample sentence in Google translate:

I went straight to check if 小さい was a na-adjective, which isn’t. Why the な then? I’m still a beginner so I guess I’m just missing something!

小さい and 小さな are two different words. 小さな is something called a pre-noun adjectival and the な just happens to make it look like a “na-adjective” by chance. If you need further explanation then just ask!

Thanks for the quick reply! That actually blew my brains a little bit. So is it still possible to say 小さい三角形 then? I guess this is just a bit more advanced than what I know at the moment.
