Would it be a good idea for Bunpro to add pictures to (some of) it's vocabulary?

For material objects, emotions, etc. I think such a (toggable) feature would be very good for retention

Hi!

I totally agree.

This would also be quite useful for some grammar, too. The あげる - くれる - もらう trio come readily to mind, as do the ていく - てくる, 頃 - くらい and おきに - ごとに duos or some nuances of the particles へ, に and を.

Hopefully, a way could be devised to implement this!?

It should be opt-in. The computer I often use for bunpro can’t even load the forums fully, much less any pictures.

I strongly agree, for example just adding a screenshot of where you first encountered a word might do wonders for retention I think, by accessing it when you fail a review.

The possibility to add an image to our ‘notes’ would already do the trick for me.

I think images would be super helpful. Some gifs could be fun too.

I agree with the opt in option as I could find it distracting with my neurospicy brain.

However for the あげる / くれる / もらう configuration it would be good to have a mini visio style chart showing how they interact - Tonkini Andy did a really good chart in his lesson on this subject when covering it in his Genki series, it really made it click for me having a visual.

Has anyone submitted this as a feature request? I’ve been doing “reverse sentence mining” - for grammar points I’m having trouble understanding the nuance of, I’ve been finding an example use in anime I’m familiar with and adding it as a custom sentence. Really helps give it some context when used in a conversation vs an isolated example. Would be cool to throw in a screenshot for additional context.

I think it’s a good idea. Hiring an artist could be a serendipitous opportunity for Bunpro to strengthen their brand identity too.

Even letting users add their own images would help a great deal. I’m reading Gabriel Wyner’s book and he argues that students get the most gains from harvesting their own images.
