A question about the 単語 「そう」

Hello,

After studying this word as presented in the vocabulary, it looks more related to the adverd 然う: in that way; thus; such”. The word is presented as linked to N4 lesson 3: 5/18 though I cannot see its usage in the example sentences.

Could you please let me know what I may be missing or else if my question makes sense.

Thank you in advance, 良い一日を

To be honest, I’m not sure what you’re asking here :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. Are you asking if the word in the vocabulary is linked to the wrong grammar point (given the different meanings)?

I also have long-standing concerns about the vocabs with reading そう, and I started to compile them into a long-ish post a while back, but got distracted and intended to come back to it at some point. (Perhaps this OP will be the impetus I need to get back to it. It’s kinda a long/tedious/messy issue in my mind, but maybe I’m just psyching myself out or something…)

Exactly. It seems to actually be " 然う" but under a different header.

Anyways, as @wct says, the vocabs for そう seem a little mixed up. It would be good if they were linked to the different grammar lessons in order to avoid any ambiguity. In fact, the linking of vocab and related grammar is a suggestion I’ve made in this thread.

I highly support this feature suggestion!

I’ve had the same thought, also sparked by the confusion around そう (and a few others, less memorable off the top of my head).

In fact, I’ve gone on a bit of a vocab-adding spree, with a significant portion of vocabs added based on grammar points that use them (or are basically identical to them).

I’ve found that this ‘multi-angled attack’ has both helped me comprehend the grammar points, and to recall the vocabs, each ‘angle’ reinforcing the other synergistically.

If grammar points literally linked to their related vocabs, doing this would be quite a bit smoother, and would make a clear case for Bunpro’s decision to include vocab, and to try to unify the vocab/grammar item interfaces. (Likewise for vocabs linking to respective grammar points if they exist.)
