でしょう assertive?

English
Bunpro describes “でしょう” as “polite assertive” and “asking for confirmation”. My English maybe wrong - I’m not a native speaker - but I take “assertive” to be self-assured, positive, quite the opposite of “asking for confirmation”. Isn’t this a bit of a paradox?

Just my impression:

In spoken, we would hear a lowering tone でしょう :arrow_heading_down: for a polite assertive, rising tone for でしょう :arrow_heading_up: asking for confirmation (question). The question mark gives the indication without using a か

Consider the example stolen from TK

夜には、雨が降るでしょう :arrow_heading_down:
At night, it will probably/likely rain. (polite assertive)

夜には、雨が降るでしょう? :arrow_heading_up:
At night, it will rain, right? (asking for confirmation)
