Book collector rehab (actually reading what you own accountability thread)

Oooh I forgot about this. That’s great, because I intended to finish reading the Super Cub manga, only to realize that I actually don’t have the last two volumes. For some reason I really thought I’d bought all of them. Hopefully they go on sale too.

Is it against the rules if we re-buy volumes of manga that we already own? I would assume not. The first 3 volumes of Cardcaptor Sakura were on sale. It’s easier for me to rip them from my kindle account to turn them into pdfs, than screenshotting the whole thing on Bookwalker. (kindle and bookwalker are both blocked at my work)

update: I sent this, and then immediately my nose started acting up and I spent the weekend with stuffy sinuses and a gunky nose. so. I read, but not in Japanese, lol.

Ah, but then arises the fact that Japanese onomatopoeia includes fun things like describing what type of pain you have or stuff like さっぷり、たっぷり、そっくり、 can you tell what’s been driving me crazy in reviews lately?

Congrats on the speaking, though! Tbh I’ve been over here and speaking with natives for ages and my pronunciation of certain sounds is still shaky. (Looking at you, つ vs す and おう vs お.)

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM-

Anyway, I’m sadly still feeling poorly, not to mention that I’ve classwork to handle, so odds of me getting back in the saddle today are poor. But good luck for the new week, everyone!

You know what, those ones are fair and not easy. I threw my backout playing with the students because old man status over here, anyway, trying to describe what happened was difficult. So add another one to that list ぎっくり腰 lmao

Do over swing without warming up folks, the spine is very fragile

Human bones in general are a bit of a mess, honestly :pensive:

I am learning that my body is not as forgiving as it used to be either… and now every time something seems wrong I feel like I get hypochondriac about it RIP

luckily if i break something that means more reading time right??

I’ve been kind of the opposite. I assume everything I experience in life is normal and then it turns out to actually be real problems. :upside_down_face: Almost lost my life to chronic appendicitis 10 years ago. Last year I got diagnosed with POTS and MCAS. Now I’m also asking about the potential to have hEDS, because I’m starting to realize that maybe I shouldn’t be constantly injuring tendons at 32. :see_no_evil:

Finished up スーパーカブ 8 and now I’m working on 三ツ星カラーズ (3) while I wait for golden week sales to start on Amazon. May as well finish up what I own for both of those series, since they’re easier reads.

I just did a catalogue of all my manga and light novels/books and put then in a spreadsheet with reading status.

362 manga, 60 books.

I’ve read 1 manga. XD

Studying to take the N2 in December, so definitely going to read a lot so the reading comprehension section doesn’t slow me down.

I am far too young for my back to complain if I sleep on it wrong, and yet…

I would joke about this being the opposite of our goal here if I weren’t one of the worst offenders myself

This kinda makes me wanna do the actual counting on how many manga I have (vs how many I’ve read in Japanese) but also that feels like a depressing number to know.

But N2 buddies! I’d love to get back into more reading, but while my cold is thankfully mostly gone, I now need to get my classes ready for after golden week, so. Alas.

Best of luck with the reading folks! And uh. In fighting our 積読 demons during the GW sales

Pretty sure you gave it to me.

I’ve never been so tired in my life. My school system has state mandated testing this week and we’re not even allowed to take time off. I fell asleep sitting up at least 3 times in my office yesterday. My husband also came home to find me asleep, Switch 2 joycons still in hand, while Ditto was also asleep in my game. :joy:

Im horrible at updating learnnatively but I read about a soild 30 pages the other day from my kids book and did a decent job understanding a fair amount of it. Gonna try to read it in its entirety during GW. No Major plans.

Also a cold is running through my school so maybe Ill be tired to properly relax and can just spend the time reading.

Just opened up Cardcaptor Sakura and ugh I hate this font. It’s one of those that I’ll need to get used to.

In an attempt to make some progress against my bookcase, I have been attempting to read コンビニ人間. I know it’s quite easy for some people but there are a lot of kanji that I haven’t come across in my usual SRS journey.
However, I found a study deck on JPDB and so went through the first 200 words on the list. I was surprised that I knew 130 of them with no issues, no need to check the dictionary, but the other 70 I have added to my Bunpro SRS.
I have the English version so my plan of attack was to read a paragraph, think about what it means, then check it in the English version. And so far, great success! Side note, I actually met Ginny (the translator) at a conference on translating Japanese literature, she is lovely!!
I am only 2 pages in but I feel pretty good. Hopefully be back tomorrow with another 2 pages! Haha

How many points do I get for reading a book I checked out of the library?

I’m on page 69 of 3年A組 おばけ教室 - It doesn’t have enough kanji for those of us who never practiced reading Japanese in without it.
Apparently this is number 6 in the 水木しげるのおばけ学校。

I would say you get bonus points for reading a library book! Unfortunately, even though I am in a big city, we have about 3 Japanese books and these are picture books for kids.

reading progress is dismal :frowning:
but i finally accepted just upping the font size a bunch to make reading easier even tho it means i can’t accurately calculate my reading speed per page anymore
it was never that useful a metric anyhow considering text density is so variable in the novels i’m reading

Yeah, it’s been a bit of a fight lately :sob: . But I’m hoping it’s just because I’ve been busier at work - the new 魔男のイチ volume came out this month, so once I get some free time maybe that’ll be a little motivational treat.

Well, that’s the real trick about “easy” reading - it’s all relative, after all.

I went to go see this year’s Conan movie with a friend last month and we were chatting afterwards about what parts of the plot we could and couldn’t follow, and it sure does make it easier to keep up with the story when you already know half the murder-mystery-specific vocabulary, lol.

Yeah, the only reading I got done was in English, rip. But if the font change helps you, I’d say that’s the more important part!

Like I said, no luck for me in Japanese over the break, and I’m tired enough this morning that even contemplating reading today has me wanting to go back to sleep. Hopefully the rest of y’all met with better results

…And did any of us survive the GW sales unscathed?
