Forgive me bunpro community, for I have sinned.
I bought the first issue of 日常 and よつばと yesterday and I haven’t really gotten any further with anything else due to being so busy over the last couple weeks.
I’ve already got a fair bit into よつばと though, it’s very cute and very easy to read, Yotsuba reminds me of many of my students lol.

I’m in the UK but I’ve added it to my wish list on CD Japan. It’s a slightly older copy though but should still be fine. Thank you for the offer though

I swear I was really going to read between tours today - I have 45 minutes between them, four times! …I genuinely don’t know what I did end up doing instead :'D Except once when I took a very much needed power nap.

No Jail time as both of those are amazing books. If you end up liking 日常 you should also get CITY. Its also pretty funny. I have a soft spot for 日常 since I watched it right outta highschool and I still go back and watch it from time to time. But CITY is up there for comedy. Gotta watch the new Anime.

I’m already halfway through よつばと！, it’s really easy to read and funny so that helps a lot.
I watched some of CITY, but it was at my old job where I rarely had any time to myself inside or out of work, so I never got to finish it, but what I did watch was great. I saw it in the shop and was thinking about it, but decided to stick with the two for now lol. I never watched 日常 outside of clips on youtube, so it’ll be fun to read. I’ll probably end up watching it at some point too if I find the time.

Yeah it’s really comfy now, I brought in like some blankets and pillows and an electric kettle so I can make cocoa, and I even put a little curtain on the barred window-

Okay I need some help it opinions on my order of reading since apparently I underestimated some levels. Paranormal school club?? Apparently rather high level. Some are also not rated on Natively because I added them myself. Currently practicing mostly for N2 level.

Hi all, I thought this would be the best thread to ask people about their reading behaviours. Specifically those who read with physical books.
Anyone reading physical books have a flow down pat for easily looking up vocab + adding to a deck.
Currently I do a split screen setup of jisho and google lens on my phone, I select the word with google lens, copy it into jisho then text it to myself. At another time I will then go through my texts and add it to my Anki deck via yomitan. It’s the best I can come up with so far but would be interested to hear if people have their own solutions. Thanks
It’s much easier when i set up reading using a browser reader at a computer so I can use yomitan directly but reading at a computer is not as fun.

One thing I’ve done a bit of before is use an ipevo document camera pointed at the physical book, with kanjitomo to look up words.

Mine is a tad slow but
But I use Takobato as my Dictionary of choice and can look up via radical search if I must and dont have Kana.
But then I toss the word into Anki, where I then have an add-on to autofill and another add-on to quickly download the Forvo audio. Even allows me to quality check before download. Then, Ill look through Immersionkit for that word and then copy the audio over as well.
A single word probably takes me about 5ish minutes but I do this in my downtown at work so it is what it is.

For your reading order, though, I’m really not familiar with most of what you listed so I’m afraid I can’t offer much advice - the only one I know is Apothecary Diaries, although I can say I’d agree that one may be tricky. I watched some of the anime and it definitely threw around a lot of genre/setting specific vocabulary.
So I’ll preface this by saying that I’ve only barely used anki and I don’t actively add vocabulary that I look up to decks at the moment. (I’ve done so previously, but keeping up with wk and bp and anki got to be a bit too much SRS for me.)
That said, when I was adding things, I was mostly using the app “kanji study”. I do also use Takoboto sometimes for set phrases or kana-only vocab, but I find that Kanji Study gives me better definition and detail for…well, kanji.
For looking the word up, if it’s available I just type the kana/romaji. If it’s not available, I have Google’s “handwriting input” keyboard set up so that I can draw the kanji itself. I’m not particularly good at using radical look ups (I always struggle with if someone is one radical or two other radicals smusbed together).
Once I have the word located, kanji study actually has a button for adding it to an anki deck. I don’t know if the info it auto fills/sets up matches what you do - I was happy enough with the cards it made, but again, not an in depth anki user - but it does so quite smoothly imo. You can even have a couple decks and choose which ones to send it to.

Split screen with DeepL and an excel doc on my iPad for me though I don’t add to anki, I just use the doc while reading and re-reading the same book/ series.
I am trying to get away from using phone/ tablet so I also have a physical note book I’m writing common words in at the moment (I have a physical dictionary I can use for this as long as I know the reading of the words or the radical for the kanji depending on my mood and which dictionary I use ).

I have a buddy and this is how he does it. He ONLY studies via WK and then writes down each word 5 times. So Kanji/Meaning. Not focused on the reading when he writes since “Thats what Im doing WK for. Itll hammer the reading in for me”.
Then he just kinda reads whatever. And if he sees a kanji a bunch of time and WK hasnt yet taught him, He has a seperate book and writes out the kanji and meaning. He didnt mention the reading so Im unsure if he does or just assumes WK will get there in time.
Hes VERY gungho on WK and does it upward of like 6 times a day. (He figures if 3 times a day is good, then 6 is twice as good lmao.) But he enjoys his method and honestly wish I added more writing to my vocab. There have been a variety of studies that associate writing with memory.

I leave for Japan next week, so I have only one single week to get through my backlog before I bring back more books that I don’t have room for home. I have [number redacted] manga and books to get through, wish me luck!
