That’s actually perfect, thank you so much!
Will be a good test of how well it handles Grammar and duplicate items, as well as share volume (10,000+) items.
I’ve given you a Bunpro Supporter badge to say thanks.

Really good question, and I’m wondering about some stuff regarding that myself. Since many of the decks being created are based on popular media, it is arguable that we are deriving from that material in some manner or another, and I don’t know where the legal boundary is regarding that. I got the script by reverse engineering the game, and from my understanding though, and to be clear, IANAL, it is legal to reverse engineer games as long as they are not downloaded from the web. Moreover, the Yokai watch story script has already been published on various language-learning subreddits and sites, just not with the non-story dialog, which I wanted. Ultimately though, the more I write about this issue the more I have to wonder if distributing the script of a game is illegal. It’s a weird niche of reverse engineering law that I don’t particularly care to explore.
That is all to say since the GitHub repository had some of the scripts, it has been made private until one of the Bunpro developers decides it is okay. I think the word list is still safe, so I will post that here: ywwordlist.csv · GitHub
First thing I’ve run into when importing your sample data is full-width numbers/romaji.
E.g. stuff like 3回
、AI
、OK
.
The romaji stuff because it technically can find some results (like the two mentioned above OK
).
But for full-width numbers, what would you expect to happen with these?
Options are:
3回
→ 回
10万
→ 万
FYI missing items will have options to replace the Vocab with one found in a manual search, or just straight up delete it from the import.
Personally I think removing the number would be best, giant imports could be a pain if you prompt the user to remove them and potentially missing the item would be really bad too imo
Also, just in case it helps, here are some extra samples I generated:
I think JMdict has entries like that, so searching should work one way or another. E.g.:
I would say strip the number. The counter/kanji is what’s important, not the specific number it’s helping to represent.
Devil’s advocate: The reading can follow either the Japanese or Chinese counting system and, equally, rendaku is not entirely consistent across counter words so in some cases it could be value to review specific counter+number combinations.
I personally agree with you but I can see people wanting the number attached due to the above.
Hi!
I replicated (half of) my textbook JLPT文法N3 ポイント&プラクティス , organized it in chapter. But when I tried to learn new grammar point, instead of learning the first three grammar point of chapter 12, for example, I learned the first grammar point of Chapter 12, 13, and 14. Is my sorting order wrong? (it’s by default, though)
Thank you for the bug report! I think I know what might be causing this. I patched it on your deck. Could you please let me know if it is working how you think it should?
It’s working perfectly, thank you so much!
(It’s helping me so much through my japanese classes, really thank you for this website in overall!!!)
Hahaha, my request for CSV support is to import from JSON instead
im a little late to the announcement but really looking forward to the csv import feature. when that’s implemented I’ll finally start using bunpro for vocab and not just grammar. exciting stuff
I’m wondering how community decks contribute to leveling up “experience” on Bunpro.
Apologies if this has already been answered above. I searched the thread for “experience” but there were no hits.
I hope to get started on making a really important and valuable deck soon
Welcome back!
Then you’ll be pleasantly surprised, very soon
Do you mean account XP?
Yep! E.g. how much XP you need to get to say Level 76 on Bunpro. I know the contents of the manga decks count towards experience.
All Vocab and Grammar is shared across all Decks.
So if you have Mastered りんご in one Deck, it will be mastered in the other.
So it shouldn’t change from how it is now with our official and textbook Decks
Sure, that makes total sense. How about if I say were to, just as a wild example, make a deck full of types of rabbits Only words like “rabbit” (which I guess is probably in one of the official decks too) would attract experience, and the other words for obscure subspecies of rabbits in the deck wouldn’t, right?
