Feedback - Bug Reports

Heya

Just a small bug that happens sometimes on IOS.

It is possible that the “Wrap up pending items” button is clickable when 0 items are pending. When you click the button in that state you get sent to an empty page where you can’t click anything. you have to reload the app after that.

To reproduce:

  1. Get an answer wrong and continue until you get that question again
  2. Answer the question correctly - the button is now “Wrap up 0 pending items”
  3. Click button

Screenshot of the button:

Screen after you click the button:

Another for the no ‘Ghost Review’ generation as above.

I just finished reviews where I got 5 wrong but no new ghosts in the ghost list or extra reviews pop up on the schedule in a few hours.

I have (and just checked again) ghosts set to ON, Beta opt-in, dashboard 2.0, using Chrome. Don’t think I’ve ever encountered this problem before though.

Thanks for the great report, the fix will be released with next app update

Cheers

Hi there! My assumption is this will potentially be caused by a broken Vocab item.

Are you able to show me what word is next in your list to study from this Deck? Please just have a look in the Deck page here and tell me what is the next item in the last that doesn’t have the red Bunpro stamp next to it.
Then I can take a look as to what could be going wrong :+1:

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks in advance! :bowing_man:

Hey there!
Just checking – you have your Ghost settings to On and not Minimal in the Review settings?
The Summary page is not 100% accurate under a specific circumstance where you don’t properly wrap up your Reviews everytime.
Just confirm to me your Ghost Review setting and I can get someone to look into this for you!

EDIT: Just saw your message @SteveB!
I’ll raise this with one of our Devs

Yes, they are “On”, not “Minimal”, it was the first thing I checked. Thanks!

Hello  Thanks for the reply.
I have 7 more from the deck to study according to the summary
The next one on my list is よろしかったら, but I don’t have issues viewing that page

I think the issue might be among the vocab on page 7, however I can’t see it as I receive an internal error when trying to click on it

That’ll likely be it! Thanks for checking – saves us a lot of time!
Will get one of our devs on the case :+1:

@SteveB

Just gonna check with this – the incorrect answer is showing in your Summary, so I’m assuming you’re Wrapping Up your review sessions?

The reason I ask is Ghosts only get created after wrapping up the Review session.

Another thing that might be happening is that you already have a Ghost created for that Grammar Point – so if you have lots of Ghosts this might be worth checking!

At the time of posting I had got 5 incorrect answers in my review set, so it should have made 5 ghosts. 80% of the time I dont click on ‘wrap up’, i just finish the whole set, it repeats any i got wrong during the session, and then presents the summary page where i click on return to dashboard. I have done it this way the whole time up untill now and always had ghosts generated for things I have got wrong

It happened again this evening and likely over the last week or so without me noticing, as now I have zero ghosts on my list (so it cant be the double ghost issue as you suggested) and I know very well I have got a few wrong every session over multiple sessions a day

Edit: On the review screen at the end, it does show that some were marked incorrect on the list, and the little green/red ‘score’ bar shows how many I got wrong in that session

Same as @SteveB , I don’t specifically click on wrap up, but I have the little broom icon on the top right when I get the repeat sentences.

My prev. screenshot contains all my ghosts, as you can see, it doesn’t have one for 「にもとづいて」, the one I failed.

As for today, I kept open my dev tools to get a full console/network log, but as luck would have it, the bug didn’t occur this time. I missed one grammar point, and it properly showed up as “Ghost stage 1”. I unchecked “Disable cache” beforehand to be as close to normal session as possible.

Edit: one thing I just noticed is that for 「にもとづいて」 grammar point, I don’t have a “First Studied” field, see:

bunpro_ghostbug3

Just a wild guess, but could it be related, causing an error during ghost generation?

I have an update on the ghost-not-generating bug.

Today I also encountered the issue. I failed two (non-ghost) sentences, but only got one new ghost. For the one that didn’t properly generate, I’m also missing the “First Studied” field.

I have some screenshots, console export and the complete network log as a .har file. I can send it to you if needed, just tell me how (email, dm). I don’t want to post it here as it contains cookies, session ids etc.

I have an issue where a few items won’t complete. I get an error when I complete them in review, then they go away, but at the home screen they’re still available to review. I believe it’s because I originally tried to forget the items.

I sent in a report for it, but I’m not sure if there’s anything else I should do?

Edit: if anyone else has this issue, reinstalling the app fixed it!

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for the info!
This is for the mobile app then yeah? I’m sure @mrnoone might be interested to know what happened.

I’ll DM you now! Thanks!

This has been fixed!
Thanks for pointing this out to us :bowing_man:

Thanks so much for the incredible amount of detail you put into your report! At this point in time, all I can say is a big thank you :bowing_man:

We believe we’ve found the error.
It’s because, a long long time ago (2 years ago according to the database), you had a Ghost for the exact same question (not Grammar Point, but question).

Our internal logic was basically saying “is there a Ghost for this question? If so, don’t create a new Ghost”. The problem is that it wouldn’t create a Ghost even if that existing Ghost was already slain.

We’re going to have some internal discussion around what should happen in this instance, and get back to you with a fix.

If you’re a long time user/Ghost-slayer, this is also probably the same error you’re seeing @SteveB

Amazing! I just checked and it works indeed, thank you

Hello, I have some confusion as to why the same inputs for the same vocab reviews can give different results on the desktop browser vs. the Android app version of Bunpro.
For instance, for 乗り越し and グランド, they always get marked wrong on the Android app for me no matter what I type, but are marked as correct on the browser, even if I type the exact same thing.

I can’t tell how strict the Android version is, because even if I type letter for letter, what the model answer is, e.g. “riding past (one’s station)”, I still get marked as wrong.

This makes me less motivated to use the app in case the affected words pop up in my review and I’ll always be marked wrong for them

No problem, I’m in web dev too, it’s kinda routine

Thank you, and it makes sense that I only encountered it now. Maybe it’s less noticeable at the lower levels, but at N2 there are lots of grammar points that are too similar looking (につき/につけ), have similar meaning and formality (さいに/にあたり), or just a bit complex (に越したことはない), and at the beginning, I usually happen to generate 3-4 ghosts almost in a row.

In fact, today I got this bug for a grammar point I added this May. My “Times Studied” is already 14, so it’s 100% possible that I failed the exact sentence already. If you need an additional example to double check, the grammar point is に越したことはない (JLPT N2) | Bunpro – Japanese Grammar Explained, and the sentence that didn’t generate the ghost is 「語学の習得を目指すなら、子供の頃から始めるに越したことはないが、年をとってから勉強をし始めて流暢になった人もいる。 」
