I’m just wondering, if if in general it’s acceptable to drop the い in phrases like おもっている then in reviews where this comes up, should it really be marked as incorrect if we answer with おもってる? Or is it deliberately left in as dropping the い is something we shouldn’t be doing?

Generally dropping い is casual language and is very common. It should be accepted in casual context, if its not you can report it :+1:

Not sure if this is a bug, but in the sentence 彼はパソコンをかいたがって、週末も働いた。shouldn’t it be かいたがっている? I’ve looked over all three readings links and still couldn’t figure out why the right answer is かいたがって.

I believe this is たい+がる form to express 3rd person desires. I’m reading “He wanted to buy a computer and work on the weekend”. The って I’m just reading as “and”…was this the translation or did I blow it?

The translation is “Wanting to buy a PC, he even worked weekends.”

I was off then. I agree, that translation doesn’t make sense. To your point, if the いる you mentioned to make 彼はパソコンを買いたがっていて、週末も働いた, that sounds better to me.

@Nenad This is precisely what we were aiming for in this sentence. The て here is acting as a conjunction; tying both “want to buy” and “worked on weekends” together. However, when we translated this sentence into English we had trouble expressing the conjunction eloquently. We have changed the translation and added a hint to help guide you in the right direction. Thank you both for bringing this to our attention. Cheers!

Is there a grammar point for でも where it means “even”, as that came up in my studies today. (Though I also don’t see it on the site for “but/however”, not sure if you wanna add that or not.)

It comes up a couple times for “even”:

For “but”, I only saw this. Surprised it wasn’t listed.

Explains why I couldn’t find it xD I was specifically searching for “demo”, didn’t know it was under “temo”, haha. Thanks!

I haven’t had the time to do reviews recently and didn’t set holiday mode. Is there a way to limit the maximum grammar points to be reviewed in a single sessions?
That would really be helpful at times like this.

@airblaster Hey! While we do not currently have a way to limit the number of items you get in your review, we have a “wrap-up” feature in the dropdown menu that appears in the upper-left corner of your review screen. If you click on that it will only cycle through the reviews that you have gotten incorrect during your review session, essentially finishing those off for the day (they won’t be left stranded).

We are working on a better way to do reviews for people that have taken long breaks or have acquired a large pile of reviews so that it displays items based on their SRS level, rather than randomly. Cheers!

Can we please get a 2nd line for our personal grammar note? Or at least just a character limit increase? Look at all the room I still have, and it’s forcibly adding an ellipsis already.

I’m keeping my ※ btw (こめじるし) because it looks cool :sunglasses:

Edit:

After closing/re-opening the page, I typed my sentence in again and now it miraculously fits?? I think it may have to do with the fact that I originally pasted in some text that already contained italics. Still, even after using Ctrl+A and deleting the whole thing and starting over again, I had a too-early … until I reloaded the page and tried again from scratch. It seems something’s fishy with the implementation there.

Anyway, よければ, I’d still like a 2nd line for our personal grammar notes

Hello Pushindawood,

just tried to use wrap-up, but I only had a finish option visible. Using that finished the complete review session including items that weren’t answered correctly.

@Kai

We will look into what might be causing this fishyness. We had originally implemented the note preview just so that it was easier to see that you had a note for that item. We will see about adding a little more room before the ellipsis gets added so that you can see more of your notes more quickly. Cheers!

@airblaster Hello! If you only have the Finish option available, it means that you have already submitted answers for the items that you got incorrect again. Let’s say that you got でも incorrect and then you got your next three or so reviews correct and でも came back up again in your review session. You entered the correct answer, but you had already gotten it incorrect earlier, so it will still be shown as an incorrect answer in your summary. Since you have done four total reviews, three correct and one that you initially got incorrect (でも), but answered again, you will only have the Finish option available in the dropdown. If, however, you got でも incorrect and then continued to get new items in your review session, you would have the Wrap-up option in the dropdown which would automatically make でも your next review. Once you answered correctly for でも you would be taken directly to the summary page and でも would show as an incorrect answer with a lower SRS level (you will see でも appear in your reviews sooner than the items that you got correct). Hope this makes sense! Please let us know if you have any questions or if I can clear up anything. Cheers!

Thanks for making this website. I have been using WaniKani since the last 4 months to improve reading and vocabulary. I was looking for something similar that would help me in grammar.
I love how you have organized the grammar points as per JLPT level, it helps, one can start from the very basics and the examples are helpful.

Wanted to let you know, there are times when the audio doesn’t work. Is that something you’re aware of and fixing?

It is because the new examples have been added recently and audio hasn’t been recorded yet!
