I’ve suggested something kind like this in another post, but I think posting it here would be good.

Being able to reset specific SRS levels (Mainly Mastered) of grammar and vocab would be very helpful, rather it be you want to go back through all of it, or you are like me and realize you prefer Bunpro to learn EN-JP Vocab over Wanikani, but don’t want to go through all the effort of resetting each and every vocab.

And as an extension of this maybe a more advance reset function as a whole, where you can filter what you want to be reset, allowing for more precise control. For example say I only want to reset N5 Vocab that is Mastered, you can choose Vocab, N5, and Mastered so that only that specifically will be reset.

Such a long thread, but I’ll throw this into the pile:

The ability to skip cards in decks. A skipped card wouldn’t go into the learn queue but would be distinct from being marked mastered.

Mostly I want this because there is a lot placeholder vocab on the site, even in premade decks like the genki vocab decks and ‘reviewing’ them is pointless but marking them mastered is misleading - my hope is that these will eventually be filled out.

For purposes, specifically, a clickbox to just ignore incomplete vocab entries would be ideal. This would make custom community made decks way more appealing to me.

Bunpro vocab is kind of weird in general. I don’t like the fact that the flow of it doesn’t help me at all to associate the correct kanji with the word. Except ironically on the words that don’t have example sentences and proper definitions yet. (but those don’t test you on kana at all)

For vocab I would like an ordering like… show me the sentence with the kanji but not the kana for the word. A hint available for the sentence except the word itself. Obviously pure kana words wouldn’t use this system.

You’re right, the ones that don’t have anything set up are the best for just testing Kanji. Honestly I’d love to see an area of study that just focuses on Kanji from words already learned/in review.

Would it be possible to add vocab to reviews from example sentences?

While I happen to know doubutsuen, I would love to just add it from this sentence. Or even other words I casually come across that seem like one of those easy words I should just kinda toss in for proper study. Dont want to stop my grind through reviews to go in and add it manually.

Would it be possible to get a yellow correction suggestion when using hiragana instead of katakana in reviews? For instance, answering 「いんど」instead of 「インド」would return a prompt to use katakana instead of being marked as incorrect.

I use a kana swipe keyboard when I do reviews on my phone, and I’ve been marked wrong a few times when I’ve forgotten to hit the katakana recommendation.

During a review, it would be nice to have a shortcut to copy the entire sentence. Why? You can put it in an LLM (e.g. ChatGPT) and ask for a detailed grammar (and meaning) breakdown. This is so helpful with difficult sentences. At the moment, you can select and copy the sentence, but it is impossible to select the green and red parts of the text. In this way, it will be possible to review more because you don’t need to look up multiple grammar points and consult the dictionary.
Currently, I am forced to screenshot the sentence, hoping the LLM’s OCR will guess the sentence correctly.

Some users complained that the reviews sentences are hard. This could be a possible game changer when studying above your current level.

There’s some inconsistency in the input required for the review sentences for 「渡す」. Some of the questions will accept「わた」as an answer, while others require 「わたす」or「わたし」instead; the system will not prompt the user to add the missing kana in the cases where the question requires it. Is this intended behaviour?

Is there a community thread in which the current progress of the validated translations for any level is reported?
I have learned all N5 vocabs and quite a few N4-N3 as well, and I have never seen any of those temporary missing translations until N2 and N1.
Some N2 terms (like 無言) I saw there were still reported as {silence} in the context translations, but recently I saw that term has its own translations.
Before starting to learn a deck, I’d like to know in advance how many of its items have validated sentences like that. Maybe a community post showing progress on translations would be an idea?

Good question.
These are straight up incorrect.

It should include the “stem” (is that the right word?) of the conjugation.

For example

• 渡さない should be 渡さない
• 渡した should be 渡した

Can we get the audio for vocab on the mobile app? When going through my quick vocab reviews I do not get any audio on my app, but do when I use a PC. And my current situation means I’m on mobile 90% of the time

Faster spoken audio recordings. Current recordings are maybe 1/3rd the speed of real spoken Japanese.

Personally, I love using the Fill-in, it’s what I think I learn the most from. At times there are words that the English translation is the same, and I have doubts about which of the ones I know to choose, often I read all the hints before I can start to complete the word, and sometimes I can’t even do that. However, by the time I go to look at the answer, reading the kanji, I know exactly which word I should write.

A feature I would like to see then, is like another last level of ‘Hints’ where the kanji of the word I have to write are shown, without the on-kun-yomi as a way to also be able to recognise the word more easily in that context, or being able to read the kanjis before writing the answer if needed.

A suggestion to adjust dark themes for OLED displays, i.e. to make the background pretty much almost entirely black.

Here is a comparison, and I’m not sure if the difference in contrast is that obvious on a non-OLED screen:

black bar on the right is my desktop set to #000. By comparison, review screen background is blinding me even with room lights on (in the evening), nothing to say about a dark room🥹

I really enjoy the vocab learning, with the example sentences and filling in the correct Japanese word. It helps me remember the vocab much better than with regular flashcards. I’ve seen others mentioning it before, but is there any rough schedule for when the A-lists are going to be released/updated like the Nx-lists are now? Would be a huge addition for further studying!

Is there a way to disable automatic furigana for all numbers? For months, I have been disabling them when I come across one, but I am not sure I will ever catch all of them.
