Improvement suggestion: how about instead of hinting with “a grammar pattern that is a bit more polite” you tell me you want the same grammar pattern I used but in the ます form? Too many times I have given up and clicked on “Answer” to find out I was using the right grammar, just without ます.
Bumping this up!
Suggested improvement: Rename “Reset App Data” to “Re-Sync to Bunpro Server” or something similar. This terminology is similar to what Anki uses. It’s called one-way sync, and the description says, “On the next sync, force changes in one direction.” This will also prevent confusion with the “Reset” feature, which was my first reaction when I was advised to use the “Reset App Data” feature.
Great idea, actually planned this for the next release!
Cheers
I agree that the “a grammar pattern that is a bit more polite” is not the best choice when we are looking for the same grammar pattern in a different form, but something you can also look for in the mean time is the information in the tense box (the word/words that appear within the blank). ‘Standard’ should be there for anything that is not ます form.
Hi folks, could we have a link to an external resource for each kanji?
When I’m looking at a Vocab Info page, I see the kanji at the top, but sometimes I need a quick refresher on their base meaning.
In WaniKani I can tap through to WK’s kanji page.
In a similar way, perhaps you could link through to WK or Jisho?
While we don’t have anything like this at the moment, we are planning on integrating a kanji dictionary into the site in the near future. This will quite possibly work in the way that you are describing, in addition to having other features that we are confident will help all users.
I’d like to suggest a double-tap avoidance feature.
I’ve seen this implemented in other apps by using a buffer set in milliseconds, within which a second tap will be ignored.
After a correct answer I often accidentally tap through to the next card without listening to the audio and reading the full translation, so having a way to avoid this would help.
I would add though that one place I do intentionally double tap is when I get a hint like “can you try xyz?” and I want to ignore it and fail the card anyway, so that it counts as a failure and I can come back to it later. Double tap of the return key seems to be the only way to get through that.
So it’s tricky, sometimes a double tap is desirable and sometimes it isn’t.
I have forwarded this request to the development team so that they can put a bit of thought into it.
I use Bunpro for grammar only currently in recognition mode. I often come across sentences during my reviews with words I don’t know which make reviewing the grammar significantly more difficult. I can click the the word but all it allows me to do is disable or enable the furigana on the word.
It would be really nice if I could get a definition of the word if I click on it.
Thanks for posting! This is another feature that we would really like to have. Definitions and the ability to add vocab to review queues/decks straight away. We’ll get there!
Small thing, but with these two sections on the dashboard:
日本語能力試験の進行状況 (文法)
日本語能力試験の進行状況 (文法と単語)
What do you think about giving more weight to each grammar point learned in the grammar and vocab section? i.e. each one grammar point learned should progress the bar more than each single vocab word.
I think this would give a more accurate visual representation of the user’s overall progress.
For instance, mastering the grammar point 〜わけにはいかない represents a far bigger leap in progress than memorising the single word 主張
Personally I think it is a little bit tough with the numbers represented as a whole on the right hand side, and it being impossible to tell how many completed items come from grammar and how many completed items come from vocabulary in that view. If I had to suggest a fix myself, maybe slightly staggering the bars, so grammar appears in the background above (or below) vocabulary, and you can see each of their individual progress toward 100%. Will suggest it to the Development team.
Maybe this is outside the scope of BunPro, but coming from a certain owl application recently, one thing I miss is being able to be quizzed on sentences.
For instance;
Write: My dog is big
Then I would need to write this out; or since languages can be extremely nuanced, have a collection of options that I must click in order to construct the sentence from a bank of vocab and particles scattered in a random order.
From a technical perspective, BP has a massive collection of sentences already, re-using these as a blueprint but having users assemble them themselves would be valuable to me as I am also practicing sentence structure.
We have discussed this in the past. It is not quite so easy to set up, as these types of review items need to be manually constructed regardless of whether the sentences already exist in the first place. We are always discussing new ways to recycle our existing content library in ways that can benefit our users though, and whether they would fit within the scope of Bunpro. So there’s always a chance that we will do something like this in the future.
Any update on a setting to allow continued SRS past “Mastered”?
No update at this present time. But I will make another mention of it to the team. I agree that it is a useful feature
@Jake mentioned back in July that this had been implemented, but I guess hasn’t been released yet? Master SRS Interval Customization
Not sure if this has been requested yet so sorry if this is a duplicate, but now that custom decks are a thing, in Deck Settings, it would be great to add a JLPT option in Sorting Order similar to what is used in Bunpro’s Search:
Ah, I didn’t know Jake had already let this feature out of the bag . Yep, it is something we have hiding in the back end waiting for release soon
.
@nminer Basically exactly the same function within the deck settings that there is within search? Not a bad idea! I will mention it to the team.
