FSRS for Bunpro Please

I know a lot of folks on here are hoping for FSRS, but I had always been happy enough with the SRS feature here in bunpro. So I never really looked into it. So I only just learned FSRS wouldn’t work with the sentence feature. Makes a lot of sense, actually

I will always be team sentences, though. I will take the additional reading and exposure to unknown vocab/grammar (and the additional repetition of known items) over slightly improved SRS spacing. So I’m very happy it’s will be optional thing

I’m not sure why it would work with “classic” SRS algorithms, but not FSRS specifically. I’m not questioning the affirmation though, that’s an honest “I don’t know why” and not a polite “I think that’s wrong” :D.

Just my guess, but since the FSRS algorithm gives each item individuals SRS steps, it wouldn’t work well when each item actually consists of ten (or more) different sentences, since each of those would need different SRS steps, depending on how well you do each of those. It’s just a different system. Sure, you maybe could use FSRS in this case, too. But it would probably not be better than usual SRS, might be even worse. FSRS might be more costly, so it makes sense to only approve it for use cases it is designed for.

Doesn’t the current SRS algorithm also assign the same sequence of SRS intervals to all sentences linked to a particular review object? (or even worse: the same sequence to all sentences of all review objects).

@Dettorer

This was my thinking as well. Is there a difference at that point? :man_shrugging:

can anyone explain the difference between FSRS and SRS?

Simply put, over time FSRS learns your individual learning behaviors and tries to adapt the spaced intervals to maximize your learning and efficiency, whereas regular SRS simply uses the same intervals for everyone.

It would be nice to be able to add an FSRS flashcard review for a specific sentence directly from a missed cloze grammar point. Sometimes I know the grammar point but I get tripped up over the word combination, sentence structure, or verb conjugation.

I agree. Actually I think it may be a good idea to allow enabling FSRS for ghosts! @Jake, please think about it.

Absolute scenes. This will be an incredible change!

Is there an update or ETA on FSRS implementation? Patiently waiting :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We just released batch one of new settings changes that we needed to get out first. Next batch will have FSRS. Sorry for the ongoing delay :frowning:

what will happen to currently ongoing vocab that is in the learning queue before fsrs?

The biggest thing I miss from Anki’s FSRS system is the much shorter stages for new cards that are being learned.

I feel the 4 hours minimum srs stage in BunPro doesn’t work that well for vocabulary.

Subjectively it definitely felt like I could take in new cards much faster with Anki’s FSRS system

Are there any updates on the ETA for FSRS? I’m already 80% of the way though the Kaishi 1.5k Deck on Bunpro. I’d love to keep continuing vocabulary here if possible, but sometimes it does feel like a slog trying to lean new cards with the long (4hr) minimum review time.

This is also my biggest issue. I can forget the same new words over and over and over. A couple minutes is what I need (or a half hour at max). Long initial intervals guarantee I’m never going to remember that word on the first 5+ reviews.

Edit: I usually do my reviews in batches of 25, and I seem to average about 40-55%…pretty bad I’d say.
