FSRS for Bunpro Please

Hello everyone. I’m aware this has been raised before but I would like to add my voice to the chorus of people asking for Bunpro to incorporate FSRS. I believe I saw one of the Devs say it was planned many months ago but im curious if there have been any updates on this front. Bunpro has been a great resource for me but I think implementing FSRS would make it a lot better.

Thanks

Yes, I think it’s the one big thing missing in Bunpro. (Bad SRS)

I really do think it is over all an excellent service but this aspect would certainly take it to the next level.

Could not agree more. This is by far my biggest gripe with Bunpro. It would save so much time compared to the current, completely arbitrary FSRS system.

It is still my obvious answer whenever people ask me how to learn Japanese grammar, though. I don’t know where I’d be without this app.

It’s closer than ever :tada: We have a slew of other settings options that it will go live with in the near-ish future.

I know a lot of folks on here are hoping for FSRS, but I had always been happy enough with the SRS feature here in bunpro. So I never really looked into it. So I only just learned FSRS wouldn’t work with the sentence feature. Makes a lot of sense, actually

I will always be team sentences, though. I will take the additional reading and exposure to unknown vocab/grammar (and the additional repetition of known items) over slightly improved SRS spacing. So I’m very happy it’s will be optional thing

I’m not sure why it would work with “classic” SRS algorithms, but not FSRS specifically. I’m not questioning the affirmation though, that’s an honest “I don’t know why” and not a polite “I think that’s wrong” :D.

Just my guess, but since the FSRS algorithm gives each item individuals SRS steps, it wouldn’t work well when each item actually consists of ten (or more) different sentences, since each of those would need different SRS steps, depending on how well you do each of those. It’s just a different system. Sure, you maybe could use FSRS in this case, too. But it would probably not be better than usual SRS, might be even worse. FSRS might be more costly, so it makes sense to only approve it for use cases it is designed for.

Doesn’t the current SRS algorithm also assign the same sequence of SRS intervals to all sentences linked to a particular review object? (or even worse: the same sequence to all sentences of all review objects).

This was my thinking as well. Is there a difference at that point? :man_shrugging:

can anyone explain the difference between FSRS and SRS?

Simply put, over time FSRS learns your individual learning behaviors and tries to adapt the spaced intervals to maximize your learning and efficiency, whereas regular SRS simply uses the same intervals for everyone.

It would be nice to be able to add an FSRS flashcard review for a specific sentence directly from a missed cloze grammar point. Sometimes I know the grammar point but I get tripped up over the word combination, sentence structure, or verb conjugation.
