育児を親に任せっきりというのはよくない。

Why is it 任せっきり and not 任せたっきり in this example?

In the きり lesson it says to use verbs in past tense instead of the stem. I did see stuff online about being able to use with the verb stem, but if there’s a subtlety in meaning then I don’t understand.

I’m not sure, but I’m guessing it’s something to do with 任せ being effectively a noun. That makes it a more general concept than 任せた which could imply a specific instance of a verb, with a suggestion of “ever since” that specific instance.
