Some Japanese use it in a way similar to ながら

[AがてらB is a slightly old-fashioned expression meaning that on the opportunity of doing A, do B as well]
[Phrases often used in A: 散歩(most common)、ドライブ、買い物、休憩. In B phrases expressing movement are common like 訪れる、くる、行く、立ち寄る、出る、歩く]
