even when

Structure

  • Verb + に至っても
  • Noun + に至っても

[至る lit. means to “reach a far stage,” “arrive as far as.” Therefore, Aに至ってもB is used to express that even when certain phase A is reached, B is still the case]

[に至っても can express the speaker’s/writer’s sorrow that even at such a point, nothing can be done about B]

[Expressions that emphasize the current moment like 今日、今、現在 are often used in A. In B, phrases meaning “still” like 未だに、まで、なお are common].
