話をする seems weird to me. Why not 話す?

Hey :grinning:

It is not weird at all! (Plus this is lesson about irregular verb する)
話をする is expression that is used and it means to chat, to converse, etc.

話す is not only used to say that, it also has other meanings like “to explain” 「わけを話す」etc.

Hi! In the sentence サッカーをしに行, is し a form of する? And if yes, what kind of form?
Same here : 日本語を勉強しに行きます。
Thanks for your help!

@Jookun Welcome to the community!

し is the stem form of the irregular verb する. The stem form is what is left over after removing ます. Since する conjugates to ます in the polite ます-form, し is the stem. Cheers!

Thanks @Pushindawood! I went through the examples again and that stem form is used all the time. So it’s all beautiful and logical :smile:

Hey there! I was wondering if there was any reason that する (and くる) only appear in the う-Verb (Past) lesson and not in the う-Verb (Negative) and う-Verb (Negative-Past) lessons?
