主婦が立ち上がる
The housewife completes the action of standing up.

I don’t understand why it’s not 主婦が立ち上げる

From one of the readings listed for the grammar point:
" あげる is used to indicate a transitive context (so and so has finished doing ~), whereas あがる is used to indicate an intransitive context (~ has come to an end). "

If the housewife is completing the action herself, shouldn’t that be a transitive action? And wouldn’t the English be “to be finished/action be completed” if it’s intransitive?

The other reading is talking about Tobira’s section on 上げる. (Speaking of which, why isn’t this grammar point 上がる・上げる?)

That sentence seems intransitive to me. What would the direct object be to make it transitive?

Ah you’re totally right.

I guess I got confused by the one of the readings’ english translations. It sounds weird to say “Her action of standing up has come to an end”.
