Hey I’m pretty new to Bunpro, I’ve just finished the JLPT N5 section and I’m moving in to N4.
I’ve be doing the default order of Bunpro.
I was wondering if anyone had any grammar points that you wish you had know sooner?

Nice thread idea.
For me it was ~しなければいけない or ~しなければならない (same meaning but the latter is slightly more polite).
I spent my first year in Japan saying ~するのが必要だ, which isn’t exactly wrong, but sounds super strange in conversation and really doesn’t flow very well at all.
I suppose the reason I didn’t learn it sooner is because it doesn’t roll off the tongue easily for an early learner, but honestly it’s worth learning sooner rather than later.
I don’t know if there are particular N4 that are more important than others, they are all are fundamental IMO. You can check a book path (even if you don’t have it) just to see what they emphasized first if helpful.
It’s interesting how certain nouns/verbs can open up a cluster of grammar points like 限(る)、わけ、もの、至る. Though there is a common thread and they are all very useful but it’s taking some time to absorb, sort out and have no hesitation of what the nuance is conveying in listening and have it productive along with grasping everything else, so still a work in progress. I think working on them sooner rather than later would be a help just to give it extra time, some just take extra time.
If you see something commonly in example sentences (both on BunPro and on the extended reading links) then it’s worth checking to see what N level they are at. There are some N3 points that don’t require any thinking to use and that you will see SO often in N4 example sentences i.e. たとえば and まず that you might as well add ‘for free’ even though you’re just starting N4. You see both of these in WaniKani really early on as well so they may already be burned into your memory with SRS.
I wish I knew some N2 / N3 grammar points sooner as I keep seeing them while reading and had no idea what they were …Eg… つつ | Japanese Grammar SRS (bunpro.jp)
I am really happy that I looked up all the verb conjugations (eg passive, transitive form) just to have an idea what they were before really studying them.
(I could be lightly wrong) I think that Bunpro’s order prioritises most common grammar at the beginning lessons at each level. Congrats on getting N5 done!
