I’m sorry you experienced that harrassement on the street. As it happened in Japan, I’m especially saddened. I clearly remember the moment when I realised my male privilege of being able to walk down the street and not be harrassed. I was walking to meet my girlfriend from the tube station in London, I could see her about 100 meters away on a quiet street as we walked towards each other. As I watched, this car full of men slowed down beside her and drove slowly whilst they made lewd remarks to her. I quickened up my speed to reach her quickly. When they saw me, they drove off. When I remarked to her, “that was awful, those guys!”, she said that it happens all the time to women when they walk on their own.
