Have you done your BunPro Review today?

Yesterday: Reviews on BP, WK, and Torii. 15 lessons on WK, 11 vocab, 2 radicals, and 2 kanji. Just now realized I forgot to do any more reviews on WK, so I’m guessing I’ll have forgotten most of the lessons I learnt yesterday. Doh.

(Update: the morning WK review went fine, only messed up the reading on two of the new vocab. )

Also new N5 stuff here on BP! I guess I’ll start going through that.

And then… this:

Well, what do you guys think? Am I hugging this daily report thread to myself? :joy:

I think you’re okay.

Added a bunch of the new N5 grammar points on Bunpro. I’m glad these got added :+1:

Added some new kanji on WK, and also, thanks to the use of @seanblue’s script, some of the new level vocab as well. I feel this will be useful so I can still add new level vocab whilst not wanting to add too many new kanji at once. Thanks!

Edit - also it seems Torii got updated - it now lists noun/adjective etc to the point when going from Eng->JP which will be useful to help distinguish which word it is after. Also there’s an audio only mode from JP->Eng. This is kindof how I do it anyway, but look at the kanji after listening if there’s more than one option.

I think you’re fine! It’s better to see someone reporting their progress, than no one!

Grammar:
I also finished up the new N5. I artificially burned the vocab like 好き・大嫌い・たくさん, etc., but I was pleasantly surprised to still be learning new things, even if they’re N5.
For instance from Adjective + の(は), under Maggie Sensei’s reading, I found out that やつ/奴 can refer to objects. I’ve only heard it to when it refers to people. (Which is funny because it says that it’s impolite, haha.)

Vocab
I completed N1 vocab on Torii this morning! I’m gonna take a slight break from lessons since I’m travelling this weekend, however when I get back I’m gonna get right back to it. My experience with the JCAT made me realize I still have gaps in my N4/N3 vocab. I shouldn’t have skipped them. I thought doing all of Core 2k/WK would have covered pretty much all of it, but nope there’s still fairly common words like さかん・盛ん that I totally missed. So I’m going to go back and finish off my lessons.

Listening
Still watching Chihayafuru. The charger for my bluetooth earphones up and disappeared on me so no podcasts while biking until a new one arrives.

Reading
I finished my 10th Japanese book of the year!

Speaking
I went to a couple of language exchanges and had a good time. At one, I was by far the best speaker (which is not saying much since it was a church sponsored event and it was clear the non-natives had just gotten to Japan, hahaha) but it was fun. Probably won’t go back but it was good experience.

@Jul3 and @lopicake, thanks. I was laughing at it. It was just kinda funny, which is why I shared it. In this thread we are talking a lot to ourselves, but also sharing. I’ve just been mighty consistent with posting here every day. I really like the BP forums, because I’m getting to know each of you (and every other regular) so well because there aren’t that many of us. ^^

And I got this yesterday:
05%20

Quite snazzy, ね?

Did reviews everywhere, also twice on both WK and Torii. And on BP because I added two new lessons from the new N5 lessons. I hope to add more of those today and also do some WK lessons. In my Japanese plan, I’m now actually behind on WK because I got everything else finished, well, BP made itself unfinished for N5 yesterday, but anyway. ^___^

OMG I watched this because you mentioned it and could not turn it off. It is so trashy but so addictive. I usually stick to either straightforward stuff like Doctor X or Detective vs Detective, but I couldn’t turn this one off. Netflix, Amazon Prime (Sentosha, Documental, Businessmen vs Aliens), and even HBO (Miss Sherlock) have all been putting out addictive (if varying quality) original Japanese programming this year in the U.S.

Finish all new BP N5 lessons. Unfortunately they are short sentences with no audio.
Still waiting for WK to level up. KW piled up but I don’t seem to care anymore since I don’t have too much time learning Japanese lately
No new lessons today, I’ll do more listening and reading instead when commuting.

A couple of lessons on BP and 15 total lessons on WK (11 vocab, 2 radicals, 2 kanji) yesterday. Also reviews on BP, WK, and Torii. Only WK got a second session later. I would have done a second BP sessions but it was after reviews stopped loading so it had to wait until this morning (reviews are working fine for me now). It was after midnight anyway, so maybe it was better I couldn’t do them, haha.

Yesterday: No evening review session, but zero:ed reviews once on WK and Torii, and twice on BP (after adding lessons I did reviews again). Also added lessons to WK and BP, 2 for BP and 15 for WK (same split as always).

And then… I realized that Torii have about 650 N5 vocab. I only did the non-WK ones (around 130), but I decided to check a bit about how late some of that vocab appears on WK… Ops… some not for a couple of lessons and some not for a many levels yet. So I’ve gone back to doing Torii lessons too. Archiving anything I’ve already seen on WK or that comes up in level 10 (my current level), anything beyond that I do because I don’t think I’ll get past level 10 much before arriving in Japan.

I wanted a solid base in N5 so I need to fill out the vocabulary that WK won’t teach for many levels yet…

Added the final new N5 points on Bunpro. In my BP reviews this morning I had a couple of sentences I didn’t quite understand but I can’t remember them… I should have screenshotted them to post here or in another thread… oh well… if they come up in ghosts and I don’t understand them maybe I will…

Wanikani I got to 0/0 for the first time in months. Just waited for a couple of radicals to guru so I can start the final kanji of this level. Since I started this level’s content, I’ve been really keen to learn these new kanji - it probably was the relatively long time since I learnt new ones. The lesson filter script still proving useful, as I’ve already learnt 40% of this level’s vocab, whilst I only have 2 of this level’s kanji guru’d so far. Means the vocab queue are the end of the level won’t be so massive.

Torii still adding slowly.

I also watched a couple of Misa videos on あげる/くれる/もらう, not because I’ve been getting them wrong in my Bunpro reviews, it kinda comes naturally which to use, but I just wanted to have it explained out in words what the difference was and when to use what.

Since I’ve not been reading much recently, I tried to read a couple Tangoristo articles today, since it only takes a few mins each time, and it was nice to see grammar I’ve learnt on BP pop up there.

Another two points here on BP. Two more and I am once again finished with N5! Yay, haha.

Did reviews on BP, WK, and Torii, but only BP got a second session after my lessons. I also didn’t get to lessons in other places, but then I also had another iTalki lesson. We really are talking more and more Japanese. The sentences I just wrote on the daily sentence thread comes from that lessons. Practicing what she taught me.

She also asked me to come up with something for us to talk to next lesson, I guess I should have expected that to happen eventually (so far she’s mostly lead the practice). A good challenge I think. Both finding a good topic and perhaps looking up a little bit of vocab if I need it. Also potentially some grammar I want to practice.

I was sick and moody yesterday, and I half forgot half was too lazy to do anything Japanese related for the first time in almost five months of spotless studying. It cost me my 111 day streak. I did one review just now, just to check and I’m back to:

6550c48230

This probably won’t stop me, I already did all 250 WK reviews that piled up yesterday, but I’m still sad. Immensely sad.

Finished N5 for the second time yesterday. The last two grammar points where hard for my brain to wrap around, like really hard. So… I only did 5 WK lessons (vocab) and about 10ish Torii lessons. Reviews at all three places, but only once, because I was a bit resentful about how hard those two grammar points where to understand. (The reading resources didn’t help much in this case.)

Recently I added many lessons per day, made a lot of ghosts
My reviews gone up to 100 today :joy:
Seems like I have to take it slow now. Many ghosts because of ように combos and causative form

おはようございます

  • Today I zeroed BP reviews. And I zeroed my WK reviews too, only just now it went up to 22 items again, I’ll zero them in an instant. I added all radical lessons on WK level 25. Couldn’t really remember about “Wedding” radical. Hark! And I zeroed some of my Kitsun reviews too, but I haven’t learned/added lessons on Kitsun, d’oh!
  • I added 3 lessons. I want to fill the new holes in my N5 slowly. They’re だれ、好き、どれ。

  • I haven’t broken my study streak. Study streak 113.

Oh no! This is so sad :frowning:

Which points were these?

Haven’t added anything on BP since adding the last of the new N5 lessons.

On WK, I’m really liking this being at 0 lessons thing, and then went a kanji gurus, going and adding all the vocab related to that kanji. Like the lessons just follow now. Rather than having this huge pile of lessons of all sorts of kanji. Getting the new level vocab which doesn’t involve new kanji out of the way whilst adding the new kanji was such a good thing. Haven’t done much else Japanese study this weekend to be honest… :frowning: Maybe later…

の as the “one” pronoun both in general, but more for adjectives. (Wrapping my head around the example sentences and being able to guess translations, I was just off.) And 何か/何も and かに/にも points was the other one (so kinda two per confusion). But I got clearer on か/も when one of the links talked about all question words using that format, then I understood both points better. Although I still don’t get why it becomes what it does, but then a lot of grammar I just have to accept work like they do (without a logical path to getting there).

Reviews yesterday as always. No lessons anywhere. Also did not zero WK reviews. I had 40 in the morning and didn’t have time to do them and when I had time that evening it was suddenly 130, and when I started doing them I just answered wrong after wrong, so I decided to quit instead of inflating my apprentice count a lot. Only did 30 reviews and had 8 wrong answers in that, higher than I tend to have. (I don’t know why it suddenly jumped, maybe I’m getting more enlightened reviews again, or something. Burns doesn’t start for another three weeks or so, but I have been a bit inconsistent with when I do lessons, so I might have gotten to new batches of enlighten reviews.)

The の is basically just leaving out information that is known to both members of the conversation so there is no need to repeat it. The same way that you don’t need to say 私は all the time. Like if someone says “Whose hat is that?” you can just say “It’s mine” “私のです” rather than saying “it’s my hat” “私の帽子です” cuz you both know you are talking about that hat, so you don’t need to say “hat” again. The かに/にも one is quite new to me (well, the かに, we’d covered the にも in class), so it’s the swapping the order of the に which I have to remember.

On a side point, I think I’m gonna burn my first WK items at about the same time as you, lol.

こんばんはみんなさん、
after a long “hiatus” I’m hopefully back  A kid sure can turn your schedule around. Procrastinating a bit on what the best way would be to return back to studying Japanese sure did the rest with me.

Are there any other parents here with full time job and things that still manage to keep Japanese somehow part of their daily routine?

But!!! I reset my BP account again to zero, started off with the first 5 lessons today which are still a breeze since I still remember a lot but want to make sure I repeat things once more to make sure I haven’t forgotten.

As for WK and Torii, I’m not sure yet how I’m gonnna approach it, might set a few levels back or so and then just slowly get back into it. Maybe I’ll dare tomorrow to do the first vocab lessons again. Now its just to slowly dip the feet in the water again to not get a shock or so haha

おはようございます

  • I just zeroed both my WK & BP reviews today!
  • I answered “どれ” instead of “どの” for 。。。レストランでもいいです。

Some screenshots!

  • I haven’t touched kitsun yet. Oops! :speak_no_evil:
  • Read a lot if you count watching Japanese TV on and off, often with Japanese writings on the screen as one of many Japanese learning methods. I don’t always listen to what they say though. I wish I can be a Japanese lipreader only by doing this. No, at least, I don’t always need to read those “annoying” subtitles (only if I understand the Japanese version. If I don’t understand the Japanese version, the subtitle wouldn’t be annoying). Now. Now. I’m lazy to type again. cc @Omun I know. I know. “No subtitle”, she said.
  • I added lessons again so that there’s only 1 hole left in my N5 stats. D’oh! They were の Pronoun ‘one’, 何か。何も. Adj + の(は), たくさん、嫌い、どの。 if I remember it correctly. The only one left is about かに. Will do that tomorrow I guess. So I’ll be back to my N4 grammar points tomorrow if I don’t change my mind. Oops! :speak_no_evil:
  • I just knew that なんにか can also be used to say 何か.

Now I’m back to my SomewhatDurtBunverted throne sleeping or sleepy!
