Have you done your BunPro Review today?

Hahaha, I’m glad it got to you too. I watched it because of a recommendation as well. Which couple did you like the best?

As for me:

Grammar
Reached level 50 and got a shiny new badge on BP! 10 more levels till I match WK!

Vocab:
Did my Torii reviews while traveling. I’m gonna wait until my Apprentice drops to <10 before I start N4/N3 stuff. Even though I’m not expecting that many more lessons, I’d rather just give myself a small break in between.

Listening:
My replacement charger came while I was travelling so I was able to listen to Nihongo Con Teppei again. I listen to him at 1.8x speed so he’s at a more natural speed, but that means that the episode ends like halfway through my commute which sucks. Ah well.

Speaking:
I went back to my Japanese ‘hometown’ for the long weekend and stayed with my Japanese “grandparents”. Which means I got a lot of speaking practice. From morning to night they were taking me around the area, visiting their friends with me and showing me off a bit. It was really fun but really exhausting. I felt a huge jump in my listening comprehension/confidence in speaking since the last time I saw them. I felt my 相槌 skills have really improved specifically.
It really gave me a motivation boost and reaffirmed why I study Japanese. Seeing my efforts pay off and being able to communicate with the people I love was really validating.

Reading
Flip-side of speaking in Japanese all day was that I had no time/energy to read by the end, hahaha.

Yeah, that use was easy/easier, it was the adjective “one” pronoun (Adjective + の(は)) that was the harder one. And it isn’t how to put it in, but to understand the sentence after it is done, like the translation of it. I always try to translate the example sentences myself before showing the English and I don’t think I got one right, because I didn’t quite understand how it all worked together. It happens with some grammar points at times, where there is a part of me that just thinks “this is strange” and until it feels less strange, I’ll struggle with that point. Sometimes it is enough to see an example that actually makes since to me fully. Something I’ve seen used before (not necessarily in Japanese, actually better if not in Japanese).

Sometimes this happens because BP likes to have the same translation of a point, a consistency, that makes the English so awkward that I can’t figure out when I’d use it.

@Andulien Welcome back! I can’t help you with your schedule, all I can do is repeat what one of my mentors always tells people with young children: Enjoy them while you can, they will be all grown up all too soon. ^^

This one is one of my current ghost reviews, haha. For the same reason. (BP tried to be nice and not fail it, so I failed it myself.)

Yesterday I… I did reviews on BP and nowhere else. I was super brain tired from middle afternoon. I’m also moving to Japan in a week + one day, and I have a lot to do, which I would have liked to do last night, but no brain…

Having a hard time remembering “seems” grammar points: ようだ, にみえる, そう, らしい, みたい
Why so many variations
Still has a lot of ghosts, but I like it. Really weird, maybe I’m glad that I had to repeat them until it sticks. Adding new lessons even still have 90 reviews/day.

Finally got streak 100 badge :joy:

Yesterday, I did reviews on BP, although I can’t even remember doing it, but I still have my study streak today. The whole evening I spent at my brother’s, seeing my 16 months old niece. Soon I won’t see her for at least a year and she will be so much bigger by then. T_T

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back
@MissDagger yes, they sure grow up way to quick, even if you get to experience the child every single day, you are still surprised how fast the first year goes around.

So third day in a row and did my Bunpro review. Currently I am trying to add about 5 items a day until I get closer to the 70 N5 items were I stopped before to slow down again to 3. We’ll see how that goes depending on how well I remember the grammar points. So far so good however.

Haven’t picked up vocab again yet. But still planning to do that this week. Just haven’t decided yet if I should continue WK (currently at lvl 9) or go for Torii for now.

Turns out I didn’t understand this point either, as I failed it when it came up in a review yesterday >_<

Also added 3 more grammar points on BP yesterday which was good. I missed my morning BP review session, so my afternoon one was really long… Today I read in TaeKim about the potential form, and since that was one of the 3 next points in BP, I added them, as the other one I already knew (とか), and the other was a vocab word (場合) that I’ve been reviewing on Wanikani recently that I didn’t really know how to use, so it’s nice to have that on BP.

Speaking of WK, I’m still loving the not having a huge pile of vocab lessons, so adding the new vocab lessons as soon as they are available/the kanji gets guru’d. I’m still failing a couple of kanji and one radical, so levelling up is a lil way off and there’s only 16 vocab points of this level still locked.

I also watched a Misa video on の/ん. It’s something I’ve been trying to use more, but, I’m never quite sure if I’m using it right. When she said "don’t use んだ in twitter posts, I was like “shit”, but then she said you can use it like んだけど to join a sentence… which I wish I knew yesterday as I just used … after the んだ

If you’re aiming at learning stuff for N5 still, then Torii is a better bet - loads of useful common words tha WK doesn’t cover.

I like Torii a lot. You can even get N5 vocab without the words that appear on WK (the kana only words still appear even though their kanji versions are on WK). However, be aware that some N5 vocab on WK doesn’t appear until way later than you think, such as past level 20 and 30. I think I even saw one in one of the 50-something levels. ^___^

Reviews on BP to zero. About 50 reviews on WK. Would have done another session to try and get it to zero again after that 80 review spike, but instead I did other things. Ops… I haven’t looked at Torii for days. >_<

This morning’s session I seem to not have remembered by recent lessons… I forgot ほとんど and 場合、and I guess it’s my first time conjugating to potential form so got it wrong. I’m also forgetting when to add な before things, and also I should think more when there’s phrases like 行きたがる, to think of it like 行きたい + がる.

Don’t worry about forgetting, thats natural. If you keep learning steadily it will stick :+1:

おはようございます

I just zeroed my BP review today.

All N5 are down. For now.
N4 to go, later when my 0 to 4 or 5 are 0 items. In case you don’t see what I mean

This chart shows that my 3 and 4 are still not 0. I’m personally more comfortable adding lessons on BP when 0-4 or 0-5 are 0. It’s just a sharing so I don’t recommend this type of slow study for young people or (language) students.

Study Streak 116.
Just levelled up to level 32.
I also stopped learning/adding lessons on WK.
My WK review items are currently 68, which I read below 100. Nowadays I think I manage it under 100. Still, because I’m wary of my dashboard, I think it’s doable to zero WK in the count of week. In case, you don’t see what I meant by saying “I’m wary of my dashboard”:

I keep my apprentice below 100. If life is rough, I like keeping my apprentice below 50, even 20. Master > Guru is not a must, but it’s good to have it. I don’t really care about Leech counts because sooner or later they will be gone just like when I kill ghosts on BP (How I do that in details, Miaou). Oh I wish WK also has Ghost feature :sob: Oh btw again this is not a recommendation for student or young people. It’s just my personal preference. I think I can only handle 150 apprentice max, and if that happens, that only happens once a month or two days a month (based on Kumi’s heatmap script on WK), and this > 100 apprentice seldom happens. This is the key why I’m always optimistic to zero my WK review in the count of days/weeks. For me, zeroing my reviews is more important than running faster than I could then burning out and then quit. 当たり前だろう。
I think I’ll only add lessons again when purr. Right now I don’t feel like expressing other than this purr.

Kitsun? I haven’t touched it yet. But I don’t get distressed when zeroing my decks there. It’s easier than WK & BP, I think.

Edit 1: 15h later

I just zeroed my WK again.

And good night!

This is a very good idea. I first started WK about 4 years ago and got pretty addicted to it. I was at level 54 in just over a year and found that I was forgetting kanji faster than I was learning them. I struggled so much to find the time to do my hundreds of reviews per day and remember the old ones. Anyway I eventually reset my account.
What I’m doing now is taking it fairly slowly and copying all the individual kanji into a personal anki deck for writing practice, so I’m forcing myself to remember the exact radicals and stroke order. It’s really helped me so far and although I’m going through them pretty fast at the moment, I’m remembering them in much more detail now.

I found that iKnow have vocabulary based on WK level. I wonder why they are harder than WK though, maybe because there is no mnemonics. I had zero imagination

Due to watching dramas that lasted at least 1 hour, I had to give up some Japanese learning material. It was fun though when I was able to pick up the sentences.

Adding 3 new lessons everyday now on BP. I’m ignoring ghosts and accuracy for now, I want to finish N4. Only 14% left on this level.

I do this too, but when I only have 2 times a day to work on it, I found a lot have piled up. I think if you have 3 times a day, 100 apprentices are good. But if you don’t have that much time, it should be lower, I think 50 is great. Learning new lessons on WK takes more time for me than doing the reviews.

@jamie I’m in an extremely lucky position whereby I’m working full-time in a non-English speaking office and am given a lot of free time during my working day to study Japanese. Obviously I know how rare that is so I’m trying to make the most out of it while I can! I’m so motivated to study at the moment so I’m making the most of that too just in case it doesn’t last.
Listening is still a major problem for me though, but recently I’ve been watching the news for 15 minutes every morning and it’s surprising how many words stick. I really should get into the dramas more though.

You should try using “memory palace” :+1:

Zero:d BP reviews as I somehow find super easy on any day. WK I reduced the review pile a little, but nothing more. I didn’t look at Torii yesterday either.

Finished one big project for my move on Tuesday. Will start another today after working on packing.

Thanks. I’ve tried that before, but it took too much time and memory cells on my brain. For the moment, only two methods work well for me: by repeating it a lot and by using mnemonics

Lucky for you you can find easy motivation. I’m having a hard time keeping up with SRS and reading books :disappointed_relieved:

Have you tried using subs2srs? But it might take a while to resync the subs and converting it to anki. You might want to call it a small project for weekends

1 episodes of an anki deck will last you quite long. I’ve counted about 700+ vocabulary words in just one episodes. Might be less because of repeated words. I haven’t finished that one episode  You can cut the clips and make it a part of SRS so you’ll also get listening practice just like delvin. It’s fun to watch the clip from the movies you enjoy watching :joy:

Reviews as usual on BP and Torii (added some new points on Torii). I want to practice the potential form more. On WK I levelled up to 15, and since I’ve been doing lessons as I go, keeping them at 0, I could jump straight into the new level content for once, and did all the radicals and added the first 10 kanji, as a bunch were familiar. I’ve been doing a bit more reading today and yesterday which is good to do again.

BP level up to 38. 12% left to finish N4.
WK level up in a few days. Still have a lot of words on iKnow for the current level on WK. I think it will be behind WK since there was still 45 words locked
Still don’t understand ということ to change phrase to noun

It’s interesting that BP highlights “it means” but doesn’t highlight the following: “that” because when I think of ということ I think it as “that” more than I think “it means”.

Maybe think of it as the equivalents of の- Adjectives, の・こと - Verbs; ということ- Phrases
