I’ll check it out!
Went away for the weekend, so I just came back to a 6-day backlog. I went through about a 3rd of it, writing out the sentence by hand to force myself to slow down and pay attention. Seems to have worked well on this batch - got 96% and exorcised a few ghosts.
That’s a good idea. I love writing in Japanese, it feels therapeutic.
Do reviews ever go down for you guys? I feel like I’m stuck at 300+ every day.
It’s mega frustrating at first, especially if you add lots of grammar points that you already knew before you started using the app. Remember if you get one wrong you need to do the same sentence (not just the grammar point but the specific sentence) another 4 times over the next few days and get it right every time.
You can reduce the number of ghosts in the settings but I would encourage you to persevere with it and once you get used to it they will go down pretty quickly.
Level up WK. BP has been a hassle, too much complex sentences and not having known the kanji and vocab made it harder to progress. I kept creating ghosts because of missing the grammar points with similar grammars from lower levels. Maybe I’ll take it slow and progress more on iKnow and WK for a while.
You might have studied too much lessons for a day. Just keep at it, they will go down eventually.
Hey
Which level sentences were too complex?
Just finished lesson 2 of N4 by doing 5 grammar points today. Probably more points in a day than I’ve ever done before. (I could check and maybe the first couple of days I did more when I had a lot of grammar points I already knew, but I ran out of those quick.)
While I would love to finish N4 by the end of June or early in July, the pace I would have needed to go this week and for the rest of June was basically 4 grammar points a day, and that is not a sustainable pace for me while doing WK and Torii too, although on Torii I only add class vocabulary.
Instead I think I’ll aim to do one lesson per week which would mean for lesson 3, I’d be doing 2.3 points per day next week, leaving 4 points for Sunday if I only do 2 a day. A sustainable pace I think. Especially since I’ll try and bone up in advance, aka do 3 on any day where either/both points were easy.
No need for haste, just be steady and that would be enough
From my experience, too much haste leads to being discouraged. Goals should be small and achievable.
Many sentences like one paragraph long and translations are somewhat a bit off causing some headaches. Like this one, omitting 結局 which translated to “eventually” I think it would feel different with just “and”
Complex sentences like this one, so long…sometimes when I’m tired I just skipped reading it and only reading the hint to do the grammar. It’s a bad practice on my end but I feel that many would do the same because of too long of a sentence. Can you shorten the sentences? I don’t think it’s necessary to make the sentence longer to make a point
No worries! I lean more towards going slow, but sometimes I try to break out of that a bit.

Hey!
I have replaced “actually” with “in the end”

We wanted to provide more context this way. It is ok to skip some parts and focus on the answer.
Fell behind again last week, so I’ve been doing about 15 reviews a day to get caught up. It’s a bit slow going because I’m still writing the sentence out by hand. I think I’m going to have to keep this up. If I don’t, I tend to skim over the sentence and miss connecting particles or when I need to use Te-form and stupid little things like that.
Just hit level 33 here. Nice number.
Also actually starting to have significant daily BP reviews. (Significant for me in this case is 25 at my morning review instead of between 3-10.) Apparently regularly doing 2-4 points a day will do that. I might have to pause new lessons soon to give some grammar points time to go into higher srs levels.
Level up BP, WK will level up in a few days.
Still progressing well for BP and WK, but not so much for vocabulary building at iKnow. Couldn’t add new vocabs for the past week due to work. The vocab level is still behind 11 levels. So much new vocabs to learn
Still on my trial, but plowing through lessons which is definitely biting me in the bum currently. So now I’m mostly reading back all additional reading material.
No new badge
@Jul3 Dang. I had hoped for one at 200, maybe at 250? And then 365?
I haven’t updated in a while. I slowed down on BP because the reviews were getting too high for me with my other resources too. I hope to finish lesson 3 of N4 this week since reviews are settling down below 10 most days again.
WK is a bit bumpy, I’ll do lessons several days in a row and then have too many other things in my day to do anything but reviews. Meaning if I do a bit of reordering of my lessons, I get behind on vocab, but while I will level up in a day or two, I will finish off most if not all vocab before I continue with level up activities (aka radicals/kanji lessons).
I’ve almost finished adding all vocab from my current textbook. One little bit left which I guess I’ll have to hit tomorrow. Then no need for new class vocab until after the 10 days off we get between terms, so until like July 7th or so. I hope to really dig into BP and WK, since it is hard to get those moving along at any nice speed when I have to constantly learn class vocabulary and have class.
Yhellow (Yes + Hello + ww) May I know what additional reading materials you read? I hope in the end you’ll also enjoy your stay and become BP (lifetime) member and motivate me whenever I feel lazy. Eh? Oops?
久しぶり!
- I zeroed my BP reviews, but I resetted my BP lvl from 35 to 25 or so about 2 or 3 weeks ago maybe. I just wiped all N4 grammar points I had learned, so that I could focus on N5 grammar points without BP Cram Feature. Good thing about BP is it’s smart enough not to delete all my notes from any Grammar Points I had learned, so one day, when I relearn them, I can find my notes again. My 宝!
- I use 日本語総まとめ N5 book + CD a lot nowadays, not every day, not in exact timing plan (because I’m open to life distraction), but a lot, like two or three times a week. So far it’s Week 2. I think there were only two vocabularies I don’t know so far from this book. And if I answered this book wrong, that must be because I didn’t thoroughly/carefully grasp the kanji difference (because they’re good in setting me up in visually similar kanji, or so I thought).
- I’ll add N4 lessons once I hit the last page of 日本語総まとめ N5 book + CD and begin 日本語総まとめ N4 + CD books.
- I just hit 0/0 on my WK this afternoon and I think I’ll be lvl 26 with lvl 25 vocabularies capability.
- I had learned 31% Katakana 4.5K on Kitsun. The most learned deck on Kitsun, because I think it’s not so hard, and it’s entertaining me. Less stressful than WK levelling system, I think.
- My Mining + Leeches Deck has been so bad. It hurts me so good that it’s still not 0
but still less than
- I started using 漢字練習ノート小学校二年生 for my writing practice, though when the time has come. Idk if I’ll continue using this book series or not. I’m interested in learning beautiful ペン字 inspired by Leebo, but I still haven’t made up my mind which book I’ll use.
- I still want to update my list but gtg. バイバイ。
