Have you done your BunPro Review today?

Oh, I got it

Phew, in order to go through all the N3 material before the JLPT I have to add 5 grammar points per day. Slowly that ‘next day’ grammar number is getting alarmly high for me :joy:

At least most of the points are sentence patterns that you can just memorize.

Just hit level 34, and leveled up to 12 on WK on Friday. Feels good. Also almost all my studying for this term (of Japanese classes) is finished. Last day of classes is on Wednesday, then I have 11 days off before the next term starts. (Apparently there are four terms per year, with about 10-12 days off between each (except between fall and winter term which happens to fall on new years (also Christmas but despite them doing a lot of decorations here in Japan, it isn’t really a special holiday much) and that makes it longer!!! Wiiii!!! Also there is about 11 days of summer vacation separate from the breaks between terms.)

So I hope to get a big chew of N4 done between now and classes starting again in two weeks because next term should be going through all of N4 in about 3 months. Good luck to future me!

I had been only a weekend warrior with BP so I lived with 500+ for months. I’m slowly turning my focus to almost daily so it’s in the 250-300 neighborhood. On the plus side with high review counts, I’m more dependent on grammar knowledge rather then memorizing patterns/sentence for the correct input but it’s harder and likely gives more ghosts as a consequence. I’m looking to add ~70 more lessons soon to finish N3 so it will suck for awhile even if I do more but it’s just a number. I’m probably doing it all wrong but BP is definitely helping my grammar (along with reading and kanji) so just got to push forward I suppose.

My reviews slowed to a crawl today… only 5 of them available throughout the day… I knew it had been a couple of weeks since I added any new items, so… I added 2 new grammar points (although I had to read up on ておく in TaeKim and CureDolly, it seems kinda unnatural to me, so I guess I’ll just have to look out for it more in the wild to get a feel for how it is really used…

Anyway, the point of adding 2 items instead of 3 is to get me finally to a 50:50 split of N5:N4 content on Bunpro!

5050

(edit: also, noticed whilst doing the 1st review for ておく that ために was highlighted in blue and was clickable, I’ve never seen this before, so wonder if it’s a new feature or has always been there - I guess it’s linking me to a grammar point I haven’t learnt yet on BP (I’ve always wondered why it was N3 on BP, as I came across it quite early as NHK Easy News uses it all the time)

This is a compromise they do when they’ve used grammar not yet taught in a sentence until they can make a new sentence and have audio recorded for it. So instead of having sentences without audio but only learned grammar, they link the unlearned grammar until new sentence with audio is made.

WOOOOOOHOOOO! I’m having 11 days off from Japanese language school. Haha. It feels nice even if I do like learning Japanese. I hope to deep dive into WK and BP. The more I push ahead on both, the better since it will slow down again when school starts. ^^

I’m back from vacation. Very hard to concentrate when work is piling up

Finally finished lesson 3 of N4. And while getting the vocabulary for the next book my Japanese class will start on Monday (できる日本語 2), I saw that the textbook apparently thinks it did N5 plus half of N4 in the first book, and will go ahead and do the other half of N4 and start on N3 in the next book. And my class went through the first book in 3 months and will go through the next one in 3 months. So if that is right, basically I’ll go from partly N5 to finished and into N3 in 6 months of classes (I had done a lot of N5 when I started class though so it isn’t as big a leap for me as some of my classmates who started at 0). Is it just me, or is that a bit… fast? >.<

I got lazy and have 700 reviews in Wanikani and 200 reviews here. It’s going to be a long time until I get either of those back down to 0. Kids, don’t be like me.

Level 35 today, wooh! Also had a very funny (and enlightening) review today:

Good reminder that just because it comes before a noun doesn’t mean it modifies the noun. And it just made me laugh. Why? I don’t know. But I’m glad for the laugh. wwwww

大丈夫。I once had >= 550 turtles to reviews in WK. It took about 2 or 3 weeks if not 5 or 6 weeks to zero them; I don’t really remember. Here, I forgot how many reviews maximum I had, because it’s been a while. I almost always zeroed my BP reviews nowadays, but this is for another reason tho. 頑張ってね。

Because life is boring without BP SRS 1-6 (or somewhat like Apprentice 1-4 and Guru 1-2, or both Apprenntice and Guru are all 0). So

:sushi: I just (re)added 3 lessons on BP. N4 - 1. BP Default Path/Order. And read the reference about なくてはいけない and なくてはらない on A Handbook of Japanese Grammar Patterns for Teachers and Learners (HJGPTL) on page 409 column 2 (the one at the most right). The difference between なくてはいけない and なくてはならない see なければ usage 2. And from A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar (DBJG) on page 274. Yep, this time even more slowly and I don’t think I can do this daily because life, but I hope, whenever I add lessons on BP, I also complete it with the reference note. :sushi: And about でも it’s on DBJG page 111-113 and HJGPTL page 296, 297, 298; I haven’t read them all (the one on HJGPTL, not the one on DBJG). I always use a magnifying glass when I read HJGPTL book.

:sushi: My WK review is also 0. I’ll be WK level 27 in 2 days if nothing goes wrong. That’s what I say. On Friday, that’s what wkstats said.

:sushi: My Kitsun review is not 0 yet. Whenever I said I use Anki, that means I use Kitsun.

Yep! It took me this long to say life is boring without BP SRS 1-6

It’s been another couple weeks since I last added any grammar points, and I finally gotten round to it yesterday. My new approach was instead of adding 3 at once in the “Study” mode, to just add one at a time, as this felt more manageable. And throughout the day I added 5 points, and 1 more this morning. It feels good to be learning again!

Overall, my Japanese learning has slowed down a lot. Just doing reviews everywhere (apart from Torii, which I skip most days) and slowly adding lessons on WK, been failing a lot of the kanji, so will level up a week later than I should have, but I keep getting some wrong. Not really doing anything outside that at all… been busy and spending more time on other hobbies recently, but want to be doing more Japanese as I feel it’s been dropping and I want to get better. As always, it’s the speaking and forming my own sentences I’m lacking the most, but I haven’t even been reading anything recently either.

Still haven’t recovered from vacation, reviews are piling up and I’m already forgetting many…lots of missed burn on WK
WK level up is already behind the schedule, iKnow reviews are now 700+, there’s no way to zero it in just one day :joy: reset iKnow streak because missing it for a day (no vacation mode), the motivation also reset :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I found that it is really hard to come back from the routine. I’ll take it slow and establish a new routine.

Have I? I’m getting a review like every hour.
Almost through the Genki I grammar. They’re starting a Genki study group in a few days on Wanikani so I’m refreshing my knowledge since I already worked though Genki. Can’t hurt to do a bit more than that either.

Have done my second BP review today. Got to a 15-day streak and really hope to maintain that at least until the end of summer (not that I am going to stop anything after that, just prefer to plan step by step ahead).
I am like 30 items or so in N3 and the question of choosing the best fitting grammar really troubles me now. Sometimes I spend quite a time selecting the item that fits best. It seems it is time to make small comparisons like between points similar in meaning and points similar in appearance.
Recently really got depressed when I mixed up とみえる and にみえる (still no clue how to divide them, need to build a mindmap of my own).
And keigo is a nightmare…really is :face_with_head_bandage:

On my 199 day streak today!
I am hoping there will be a 200 day streak badge to keep me going.

Truth be told, I kinda lost steam at around the 120 day mark and barely added any lessons.

I just hit 200 day streak. Woop!

I really noticed the last couple of months that I only get a new badge like once every month when before I’d get one every couple of weeks if not more often (early on). It is kinda sad. Because leveling doesn’t mean much on BP (I can’t get a sense of progression from it) and finishing a whole N level takes a long time. Even finishing a lesson within an N level doesn’t actually show in many places. So badges was a way to feel progress. Might need to post this in feature requests or feedback… Because it is good to get that spurt of inspiration from feeling like you accomplished something more often than once a month.

I feel you. I wonder if I can have (a feature or a script, idk :woman_shrugging: ) my BP level down because I answer wrong too many times. I don’t get email that has jumping and dancing gif when I level up.

I just got mine today too! Pity there isn’t an actual badge for it.
