Hints that fill you with visceral rage

Okay maybe the title is overstating it a bit, but I might cry the next time I have to struggle with whether to pick なくてはいけない、なくてはならない、なければならない、or なければいけない
“could you make that more formal? okay now make it more casual!”
Bro I’m gonna cry.
Are there any combos anyone else struggles with?

What I’ve been doing is to try all 4 of them.

I feel ya, I’ve explained to my friends before how I feel like I’ll have to go get a prescription for hypertension meds to get through Bunpro reviews because of those exact grammar points.

Still waiting for the day a Japanese person asks me if I can say something another way in real life. That’s when I’ll actually keel over. :coffin:

Just be bad at Japanese then it happens automatically. I speak from experience.

It happened a few times that people were like “I don’t get it” and I had to try and say it differently, hoping it would then convey the message.

the worst example was when I first tried using Verb[volitional]とする (JLPT N3) | Bunpro IRL, but it didn’t get the message across at all. Then I retried with てみる (JLPT N4) | Bunpro
