This is my first post in this thread!

Since I signed up for the JLPT N3 in July 2026, I figured it was finally time to start reading seriously, since I had basically never done any reading since I started learning Japanese last September.

So I started reading on March 17th, 2026, and yesterday I began reading コンビニ人間.

Here’s my ranking of the books I’ve read so far (top = favorite, bottom = least favorite):

  • 奇譚ルーム (5/5: really easy to read and story is really nice)
  • 雨の日も、晴れ男 (4/5: pretty funny story and easy to follow)
  • 世界から猫が消えたなら (3/5: not much to say, I didn’t really enjoy it)
  • また、同じ夢を見ていた (3/5: wasn’t a huge fan of it, I think it was overhyped for me)

As for コンビニ人間, I’m currently about a quarter of the way through it, and so far I’m having a really good time with it. We’ll see how it goes later on!

At the same time, I consume a lot of Japanese content on YouTube (mostly gaming videos) by generating subtitles myself, since YouTube subtitles are usually pretty bad.

Sorry for the huge post! I just wanted to share a little progress update from the past few weeks. I’ll try to post once or twice a week to share what I’m currently immersing with :slight_smile:

Watched ep 7 of Yomi no Tsugai, finished chapter 3 of かがみの孤城 page 165.
I went to a doctor’s appointment too!
And played sims 2 in Japanese.

I read a bunch of free papers.

Page 255 of かがみの孤城
and proof that reading kanji and writing kanji are different skills, 孤 came up in my Kanji reviews and I wrote it wrong. Despite seeing it every day.
I might put some more time into kanji, or keep reading かがみの孤城

I started in January, And finishing it (and 1 other book) was my new years resolution.
I’ll read some manga before starting my next book.

Tonight I played some of an RPGmaker game I really liked in my youth, “Ib”. There are a lot of words I’m unfamiliar with, but the grammar has been just right for me. I’ve been looking up vocab as I go; since the game is short with multiple routes, I’m looking forward to seeing how much I recall over the course of them.

Just finished 十二国記 月の影影の海 (1 book) and that so far the most interesting thing I’ve read in Japanese. It’s an isekai from 35 years ago, where the main character is struggling a lot trying to survive in a world that is made to kill her.

They’ve already made me feel like the world is large and nether me or main character don’t know anything about it.

I watched an episode of Full metal Alchemist with Japanese subs.
I read 17 pages of となりの魔女フレンズ. It’s for 4th graders, and かがみの孤城 is for middle school students- so way easier.
Still got a new word
よそ 名 ヨソ⤵

❶ほかの場所。例 よそをさがす。

❷関係がない。例 よその人。

❸かえりみないこと。例 仕事をよそに昼ねする。

I definition is from 小学館例解 I downloaded yesterday. If you are interested in trying out a Japanese dictionary, an Elementary school one is a good place to start :slight_smile:

Today I was looking up baby picture books I can read to my 7-month-old to practice Japanese and get her into books… We are Croatian, but I need excuses to read materials in Japanese, and I want her to be exposed to books and other languages :sweat_smile: . Tadoku is the best so far.
