JLPT December 2023

The English localisation is not amazing at times, but in the end I use it to learn Japanese so I don’t care too much

So I applied for the N5 in London. Been using Wanikani and Duolingo so far, but decided to get BunPro too if I’m going for the exam. Hopefully I’ll be able to complete the N5 section before December 3rd!

Registered yesterday for N3, first time taking the JLPT!
Been in Japan for 5 months so far and can read and hold most conversations with friends without too much trouble. Anyway thanks bunpro for existing, it’ll be useful during the next few months.

Hi, how far into WaniKani are you? And did you learn vocab as well with WK or Anki or what kind of deck did you use?

I’m currently on level 15 on WaniKani. Just been going through the levels at my natural pace. Any vocab I’ve used has been through that or Duolingo, which I’m at section 3 on.

I do hope I don’t fail as fast as they confirmed my inscription this year, it only took them 45 seconds to validate the data and payment.

Signed up for N2 for the second time.

Good luck everyone!

Don’t worry, they only take your money that fast!

It will still take about the usual 2 months to put your answer sheets through the scantron

I’ll be taking the N2 in December, Perth Australia. I passed N3 last year, and N4 the year before that.

I’m using bunpro, shin kanzen master reading and listening, and then doing reading and listening practice when I can.

It only runs in December here, so if all is well, I’ll take N1 next year.

Might find N5 to be too easy then  5 levels higher than me and I’m taking N3 :sob: Good luck!

Lol hopefully I do. I just wanna start from the beginning and get a sense of where I’m at though.

Have you done the N5 and N4 then?

Just booked my coach tickets to London for the 3rd. I’ve gone out on a limb here and thought that Sunday railway service in the UK will be :poop:

They were pretty cheap for my neck of the woods, so I’d advise booking now people.

I’ve got a spare few hours after the exam if any one wants to meet up and complain about how impossible the listening section was have a debrief on how it all went. Otherwise I’ll go check out the curry rice place in Soho by myself. :curry:

Now only 1700 hours until the JLPT :open_mouth:
Really puts it in perspective.

How many of those hours to use for studying …

I was checking exams for next year but it seems that in my region the summer exams start only from N4 upwards. I really would like to avoid driving 5 or 7 hours to others places or even stay overnight but I’m not sure if I’ll make it to N4 until summer.
At the moment I completed N5 grammar and started N4. I have been to level 10 in Wanikani in the past and should be higher till summer. I’m not so sure about listening and vocabulary though. I tried some mock exams for N5 and surprisingly got like 90% right in the Kanji and grammar part but no chance in the listening and reading part. Most of the times I don’t even understand what the question is because of my lack of vocabulary

N4 in a year is a pretty realistic and attainable goal for most people who study daily as a hobby. I’d personally recommend going for it!

Recommended by a tutor that gave me a good recommendation with marugame udon, but not checked it out yet. I’m thinking that the curry will taste better than it looks! I do worry as someone that is used to Indian curry, will the Japanese version be a bit lacking in the spice category, but I still want to check it out sometime.
