Was really worried I bombed the listening section hard enough to screw me over. Probably wouldn’t be a big deal either way but glad I have the extra immigration points over N2, that’s one less thing to worry about.
Congratulations on the perfect Listening score!
Would you mind sharing how you got so good at Listening? Any sources, or tips?
Listening is my weakest and I want to improve!
I passed the N5 with an A!
I got 88% for Vocab, Grammar and Reading, but only 58% on Listening.
I knew I struggled with the Listening, but I wasn’t sure if I would pass or fail.
I’m now prepping to take the N4 in December 2026, but with a major focus on my listening!
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 143 ON THE N3 LET’S GOOOOOOOO! I honestly thought I barfed the listening and would just squeak by! I felt really good about reading and thought it would be possible to get 60 and I did! I got a perfect score on reading! Vocab was solid about where I expected too. Wow! I can’t believe I actually did this!
Thank you! I also heard it was harder than usual but it doesn’t matter, I’m actually happy with my score. It’s a good representation of where I was two months ago, but I only (barely) got my N3 last july, so I like the progress even if it’s a fail this time! Are you going straight for N1 now? In any case I wish you luck too
To all those who passed, congratulations you earned it! To all those who failed, a failure is only the first step toward success. Keep at it. As for me…well, never say Bunpro doesn’t work:
Passed N1. Thank you bunpro, could not have done it without you.

Can I say it kind of works? (Just kidding, I love Bunpro and it helped a ton)
Man my heart was pounding typing in my registration number and passcode…
Passed N3 with 118/180!!
Kinda surprised I still got 33/60 on reading with how rushed I was with it.
Now I really know what I gotta focus on studying for the N2 this December.
I was shaking for like 30 minutes after I clicked the “submit” button to see my result lol
That explains why the website was oddly snappy when I got on precisely at 10am
Yeah, progress is the most important thing, super commendable trying only 6 months after N3!
As for me, I think I could probably pass N1 if I take it in Dec but I’m still a bit burnt out after all the studying and just wanna enjoy Japanese books and games again without stressing about how much it’s going to help me or not. lol
Omg, so many N1 passers here!! I aspire to join your ranks! Congratulations everyone, from N5 to N1, you’ve all worked hard and done amazing. Even if you didn’t pass, the test is a good way to find out your weak spots and figure out what you want to work on, so please don’t be too disheartened, and good luck for the next round!
Thank you so much and congrats on N5! There are two main Youtube channels that really helped me with listening. Kensanokaeri goes on walks outside while vlogging in simple Japanese, ranging from N5 to N4-N3 level, which is great for getting into immersion and comprehensible input. He also has Japanese and English subtitles on all of his videos with furigana. The other one is Japanese with Shun who does pretty much the same thing as Kensanokaeri but without furigana and he talks at a faster pace. Both are great!
Thanks! I will definitely give both of those channels a listen
Managed to grab the N3 pass!
Puts my timeline around N3 in ~1 year of studying Japanese. My score is kinda ugly, but listening was rough. Not sure when I’ll go for for N2, but I’ll be continuing my hardcore studying this year. Hoping (potentially unrealistically) to pass N1 in the next 2.5 years, so we’ll see.
Thank you Bunpro!! I studied with only Bunpro’s decks and mocks, plus 2 additional mocks I found on the internet. I’m convinced this is proof that Bunpro is the most comprehensive tool out there. Best subscription ever spent.
Congrats everyone!
I still don’t believe my listening score… N3 here I come!
Thank you Bunpro for adding those practice JLPT tests, I really think they were the reason for my listening score
According to my study log I’ve studied 615 hours since I first started tracking my study in April 2024- it’s a bit lower than “reality” because I only logged time where I felt I was present (eg. if I attended class for 2 hours but I felt I zoned out, I might log 1.5 hours). That’s an average of 6.7 subjective study hours a week tho. If I were to guess the hours based on my physical presence only, it might be more like 800 hours. Thats about 8.8 hours a week.
I passed n4 in August 2024, n3 in January 2025, and now n2 in January 2026. (tho a low pass on n2). Thats with taking the whole month of August in 2025 off studying, too.
If you’re dedicated @deceir I think you can def make n2 in a year and n1 a year and a half after that. Ofc I haven’t taken N1, but I don’t think your goal is unrealistic.
Also not to be petty (maybe just a little bit), for anyone, it’s best to try your best, work hard, and not take what people on the Internet who don’t know you at all too seriously.
