JLPT July 2025

Also hoping to take the N1 in July, but we’ll see! Recently moved to Japan and kind of scared to do it in the summer after all the horror stories I’ve read of test sites not having AC/people not being able to drink water during the test :disappointed_relieved:

I might go for N2, even if it seems like a big step, but why not try, right? At the start of the year I wouldn’t have dreamt that I could even be contemplating something like that at this point. 7 months is at least more time to prepare than 5.

I think I may attempt the N2 in July. Let’s all try our best!

No July test here - so gotta wait until next December for another crack at the N5.

I’m on the fence about doing the N3 in July or December.

Let’s see how the N2 test results go… If I fail, I might try to retake… If I somehow pass, will probably skip this one and try to finish a bunch of reading and shows I put on hold cause of the N2 tests. Maybe will consider N1 in 2026. Haha

7 months…so far but so close, my goal is to take the JLPT N3 in July 2025.

I started to learn Japanese on March 2023, took the JLPT N5 on December that same year and passed, after that I passed on the JLPT N4 on July this year, I wanted to go for the N3 this December, but it’s a much bigger gap from N4 → N3.

I’m still far from ready for the N3, I guess when the application period starts, I’ll take one or two mock tests to see if I have a chance at passing, since this is just a hobby and taking the JLPT is very expensive cause I have to travel to Sao Paulo, so, failing the test is not an option.

Seven months and hopefully happy N2 success in 2025 for me haha
Not sure where or what I will be doing in 7th months time but after the test yesterday, I know that I have to study more haha.

Is it true there’s no July JLPT in the U.S.?

It’s true. Because it always falls on July 4th weekend and no site has the resources/personnel to host it that weekend.

Next JLPT for stateside Americans is December 7, 2025. Which is a weird date to pick, for obvious reasons.

I think it’s always the first Sunday of December. There’s no deep meaning to the date that’s chosen, especially as the vast majority of people taking the test are not American (nor Japanese). I actually had to Google why the date has any significance myself so not that obvious (to me, anyway).

Yes, I know it’s because it’s the Sunday. Just thought it was odd they didn’t move it to another Sunday when they saw what date it fell on.
But you bring up a good point, just because it’s the first thing that I thought of when I saw the date doesn’t mean others will think the same. I was a bit presumptuous there, admittedly.

Hmm yes the world should remember the day that Marcus Tullius Cicero was assassinated on orders of Marcus Antonius, and never host any events on that date. Or on any of the other 365 dates really /s

What sites do JLPT in the UK (or Europe) in July? If I need to give N4 another go, I don’t want to wait until December to do it Dublin again.

I did N5 this December studying for 5 months, now my plan is to do N4 next July (and then next levels maybe on July again with one year periods to study, as they seem having about double amount of new content?)

In the UK - London and maybe Leicaster Edinburgh I think…

In Germany, both VHS Düsseldorf and Uni Hamburg usually do the JLPT in July, but it looks like they are already fully booked :open_mouth:

It’s more just superstition for me honestly. I wouldn’t want to write the JLPT on December 7 for the same reason I wouldn’t want to go to Oslo on July 22, or walk on Drottninggatan in Stockholm on April 7.
There’s just bad energy there, like an omen, you know?
