Next JLPT for stateside Americans is December 7, 2025. Which is a weird date to pick, for obvious reasons.
I think itâs always the first Sunday of December. Thereâs no deep meaning to the date thatâs chosen, especially as the vast majority of people taking the test are not American (nor Japanese). I actually had to Google why the date has any significance myself so not that obvious (to me, anyway).
Yes, I know itâs because itâs the Sunday. Just thought it was odd they didnât move it to another Sunday when they saw what date it fell on.
But you bring up a good point, just because itâs the first thing that I thought of when I saw the date doesnât mean others will think the same. I was a bit presumptuous there, admittedly.
Hmm yes the world should remember the day that Marcus Tullius Cicero was assassinated on orders of Marcus Antonius, and never host any events on that date. Or on any of the other 365 dates really /s
What sites do JLPT in the UK (or Europe) in July? If I need to give N4 another go, I donât want to wait until December to do it Dublin again.
I did N5 this December studying for 5 months, now my plan is to do N4 next July (and then next levels maybe on July again with one year periods to study, as they seem having about double amount of new content?)
In the UK - London and maybe Leicaster Edinburgh I thinkâŠ

In Germany, both VHS DĂŒsseldorf and Uni Hamburg usually do the JLPT in July, but it looks like they are already fully booked
Itâs more just superstition for me honestly. I wouldnât want to write the JLPT on December 7 for the same reason I wouldnât want to go to Oslo on July 22, or walk on Drottninggatan in Stockholm on April 7.
Thereâs just bad energy there, like an omen, you know?
You canât even apply in DĂŒsseldorf or Hamburg yet. I donât know about Hamburg, but applications for the JLPT in DĂŒsseldorf in July always open in the middle of January. Applications usually open shortly before the results of December are announced, which is a bit counterintuitive. You can only apply via letter. Itâs generally fully booked within two weeks.
Iâve taken N5, N3, N2 and N1 in DĂŒsseldorf and N4 in Stuttgart. I failed my first N1 attempt in December 2023 and took a little break from the JLPT afterwards, but Iâll be attending in July 2025.
Anyone think I can go from N2 ăźăȘăźăȘ a few weeks back to N1 ăźăȘăźăȘ in 7 months? Place your bets now!
Let me know how you did in N2 in a couple of monthsâ time, and then Iâll get back to you about it
Ngl, I had to Google events that happened on 7th December to understand what you were referring to (the way I was taught history is very Eurocentric). Definitely an unfortunate coincidence.
FYI, you can now apply for the JLPT in DĂŒsseldorf
they meant from N0 to N1 if they are doing no practice.
i will take the N3 for sure. The time feels right to me.
I may be doing N4 in Dusseldorf. Dublin donât do it July and itâs an excuse to cross another Legoland of my list afterward.
A [ N5 JLPT Exam ] Survivor here.
I also planing to do N4 exam on July too. Lucky, I have finished N4 grammars. So all remaining 5-6 months would be about improving my grammar and vocabulary.
Based on past exams in DĂŒsseldorf, applications are only open for roughly 2 weeks. Given that you can only apply via mail, and applications are only processed on weekdays, make sure to apply sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the advice. Iâll do it this evening!
