JLPT July 2026

There are also 2 free mock tests on Migii and 2 on todai Japanese app
I haven’t done them, but I feel like they should be as comfortable to do as the Bunpro tests.
People also say that migii tests are somewhat even harder than the real ones

Last time I tried Migii tests, the audio section had some seriously awful sound for the N2 and N1 tests. Not low sound quality, but varying quality from okay to terrible AI, and broken sentences.

It can still be a good service I think and if they polished it more and actually went over things properly to check quality I would have paid. I thought the vocab+grammar+reading wasn’t too bad, though expect a bunch of random mistakes since the quality control is really not there.

One month out, how do you feel? I was contemplating taking N1 in December if I pass N2 in July, but I get the feeling it’s a step too far.

I finished n3 grammar.

For now, I continue with 1 new n2 grammar point per day on bunpro, continue the usual kanji and vocabulary anki cards, light reading and listening practice when I have the time.

Main preparation is doing jlpt practice tests every day, lightly for now as I am on a holiday. The plan is at least one full test per day with weak points identified and targeted specifically, once I return to my usual schedule.

Step by step, do your best and don’t sweat the rest.

みな、頑張って!

Edit: signed up for n3 in July.

Still plenty of things I don’t have as good a grasp of as I’d like to, but overall I’m actually feeling pretty good about my preparation so far. I’ve been managing to mostly stick to the planning I made, which is an accomplishment in and of itself already. I’m confident that even if I fail, I’ll have given it my all. And the Bunpro mock test results have all been around the same level, which I really wasn’t expecting! I was expecting my results to go down as the tests got harder. I think maybe I might actually be learning things, haha!

As a rule of thumb if you can get 80-90%+ on N2 then N1 is probably feasible in 6 months. Assuming you’ve not just hyper optimised for the N2 content only.

恐怖だけだ。Well, that said, I feel rather ready for it. I have prepared all I could, get all the grammar possible, and for vocab I should know about 12,000. I am planning on adding new words until two weeks left. From now on until test day, I plan on doing reviews, and reading, and listening only.

I know that I have pass chance, but I still want to do the best I could. And to be absolutely honest, I am a bit tired of Japanese learning at the moment. If burnout is real, I am now a charcoal… It has been a part of at least 3h/day for my last two years…, but if I can achieve a pass score on July 26 N1 exam, I think I will give myself a month of resting…

Yeah, you are right, especially when we have 7 months instead of 6, haha, exactly 209 days from Dec 25 exam to July 26 exam. Haha. Yes, I am THAT obssess with JLPT. Sigh.

Sounds like you need a well deserved break after the test! Wishing you all the best, I’m sure you’ll do great

It really depends on your situation, I took JLPT N1 in July 2025 after passing N2 in December 2024, but I unfortunately failed by a few points; my score in N2 was not the best, but with an extra 4-5 months of study + immersion from moving to a pretty inaka part of Japan, I was able to pass N1 on my 2nd attempt last December.

Yay my voucher arrived! Time to spam mock tests… 頑張りましょう

Got my voucher back on the 18th (going for N2), trying to do whatever prep I still can before then - been kinda busy, so my confidence isn’t the greatest, but even if I fail it’ll be informative!

Hehe, told you so

Just keep learning, keep practicing.

Take it easy on the day before the exam. Sleep enough, eat, drink well and enough. Prepare all your things - clothes, food, papers, IDs, pencils, etc.

On the day of the exam - don’t try to learn or revise anything before the exam. Your brain will latch on these last minute items and will keep those on loop.

Concentrate on your breath and just do it.

Occasionally I have a really bad day and get less than 50% right on my reviews. Such days are rare, but they do exist. Sometimes I wonder if it possible to have a day like that exactly on JLPT day. It’s a discomforting thought that sometimes settles inside my brain and refuses to leave.

You’re right. Bread gives you a head starch on exam day.
