New Answer Input: Multiple Options

Bunpro already supports multiple answer inputs, e.g. Cloze and ClozeFlashcard. IMO, a valid new answer input would be Multiple Options. Basically you’re presented with a cloze sentence and you pick the 1 correct option over 4 possible options.

This may lead to slightly worse retention than regular Cloze but it’s also more interactive, fun and faster. Importantly, it would solve one of Bunpro more persistent issues, i.e. similar grammar point with the same meaning. Either way, it would be optional, same as ClozeFlashcard is today.

Yeah, this is a popular request, not least because it’s like the JLPT format.

I guess it takes quite a bit of time and effort to implement, especially regarding having good “distractors” (incorrect options which are preferably almost right in some way but are still definitely incorrect).

Until then, I’d be happy with even just 3 loads of absolute rubbish as the alternative answer choices, though I guess the downside is getting every review right just by elimination :joy:

Yes!

I can’t recommend a solution because I don’t know Bunpro’s data structure but a potential starting point could be simply displaying the correct answers for other grammar points.

Ideally, the 3 incorrect answers should:

  • Be always different.
  • Be somehow similar to the correct answer.
  • Be different enough that no two correct answers are ever presented to the user.

I believe that Bunpro has already enough data/content to make sure these three criteria are met.

With similar grammar points taught in the lesson structure, they could opt to make the options from the other points in that lessons pool. Not sure if the more advanced levels are structured the same way, but if so could reference in the same way. But in general having a multiple choice option would be nice.
