Holy cow am I in love with the いろいろな日本語 YouTube channel. I’m glad I found it now, but I would have loved to have found it around the time I was getting done with N5 even more.
This guy is the best I’ve seen when it comes to immersive learning for beginners through early intermediate (where I am). He goes through some media, for example, a manga, while explaining what’s happening in Japanese. Often he restates dialog on the page in simpler terms, or takes a detour to explain a more advanced grammar point. He supplements his explanations with drawings he does in real-time on the screen. The combination of the visuals on the page, some pantomime, and real-time drawings is something I’ve never seen before, and it’s just incredible.
He’s also done similar with episodes of anime, but not like a reaction video, rather, he uses still frames from each scene to talk through what happens in the show.
If you’re past N3 I reckon this might be below your level, but for those who are not, I’m pretty confident you’ll love this. Try the stuff I just watched:
Let’s read Yotsuba!
Japanese with DANDADAN
I am absolutely blown away by how good this guy’s pedagogy is, and I’m so psyched to consume his back catalog. The only reference to it I found in the forums was a post in the immersion thread from last year by @Brightly, and I really really want more people to know about him.
The channel creator is Polish, but my native Japanese sister-in-law vouched for his Japanese being flawless except for a few minor intonation differences.
役に立てば嬉しいです!
