I found this awesome playlist about 日本史, and decided that I want to study Japan’s history using it. In this topic I’ll be posting my little texts, essays, after each episode I watch.
To start with, I settled on a study plan in my mind that looks somewhat like this:
- Watch a video once without lookups
- Look up what is necessary to understand the meaning
- Write the most important words into my notebook
- Write down important points about the history that I want to learn (in Japanese)
- Write an essay about the episode
At first, I thought about writing an essay as a comment under the video, but then the idea of writing it here came to my mind.
I settled on learning Japanese history because it can give a lot of insights into the Japanese culture, which will make the Japanese language make much more sense in general, but not only that. I understood that learning history leads to an understanding of how any country works, and knowing about where and when things were happening means it will be very interesting to visit those places! Also, I understood that history itself is a subject I would learn 24/7 because it’s fun to learn!
That’s why I decided that I’ll post here my little essays, so people might also start getting interested in 日本史. I’ll also try to include the most relevant facts to language learning in my essays.
The writing process looks like this:
- Set a timer for 20 minutes, that’s a time limit for a one-video essay.
- The topic of writing is things that are interesting for me, things that are interesting for me as a Japanese learner, and things that were the key points of the video.
- After I finish writing, I try to find mistakes myself. I’ll highlight the parts of texts that I think contain mistakes, and fix the easy ones that I just missed in 20 minutes. (I’m saving the first version and editing the copy in a new file)
- Using AI to find what I could have used in points of doubt, as well as asking for other critical mistakes, and updating the file with what I like the most (I’m using the third file for this)
So hopefully it will be interesting for some, and if so, maybe we’ll be able to talk about 日本史 in this thread
