Structure

  • Verb + だに

[AだにB expression is used for emphasis, meaning that even just A (thinking, imagining, seeing) already produces the effect of B]

[Generally not used in modern Japanese, with the rare exception of use in formal writing, novels, manga, and anime]

[A is limited to a few phrases: 考える、想像する(more frequent), 思う、思い出す、見る、聞く (less frequent)]

[In B, expressions like 恐ろしい and おぞましい are common]
