Where to start

Hello,

first a little bit about my Japanese Journey:

I have been studying Japanese on and off for several years now with no real strategy and very little progress. I am living in Japan for a little bit longer than a year now and since then took studying more serious.

I passed the N3 this summer. I never really had a good method of studying grammar and therefore it was my weakest category in the JLPT.

Now I want to prepare for the N2 next summer and want to finally buckle down on studying grammar but I am not sure where to start. Most of the grammar points of N5 and N4 are familiar to me. Shall I still start with them or would it make more sense to go directly into N3 and N2 grammar?

Also: Are there any guides on how to best use Bunpro?

I would be very happy about opinions and advices, thanks!

Sorry for the terrible formatting of this thread, I am really bad at writing these.

Hello and welcome to the forums.
Congratulations on passing N3. We’ve been just celebrating published results in this thread: JLPT July 2024

Bunpro has a concept of decks nowadays. You could for example skip N5 and N4 grammar and vocabulary decks, and start with N3 or N2 decks, or both, depending on how confident you felt with the exam. For each deck you can independently select your target new items per day, but of course you can choose to study more on any given day.

And then if you reach a point where you want to invest more time, but are already feeling overwhelmed by the new material, you could also add N4 to the end of the deck queue.

Different people use different settings of Bunpro. Some go through both grammar and vocab, some only do grammar and study vocab separately. Some keep default settings for ghosts, review order, hints, and some experiment with those settings. So just give it a go and you can always adjust later.
