Creating new grammar points

I’ve been using bunpro recently for following my Japanese class (which uses its own textbook). This unit has the grammar point [た]ものではない (meaning “impossible to do”, and it’s apparently N2). I looked through the lists, and its not a grammar nor even a vocabulary word (which some of the grammar points in this class have been).

Is it possible to add my own grammar points, or if not, what’s the proper way to request one added? I couldn’t find anything after poking around for a few minutes.

The bunpro team take suggestions! There’s a thread floating around here somewhere showing the points they’re working on and you can suggest them there.

edit: the thread I was thinking of is Missing Grammar Updated! (July 31st 2025) butit seems like you should actually suggest on Future of Bunpro’s (missing) Grammar - Update!

In the mean time, you could try using the self-study sentence option? You could add it under the vocabulary item “mono” perhaps?

Thanks for the suggestion and links - adding a few self-study sentences seems like a good idea for stopgap.

Likewise, thanks for introducing a new grammar point!

Definitely not the most efficient, but I’ve got a grammar textbook (日本語文系辞典) and when I come across a new grammar point and check it in there, I then have an Anki deck where I stick an example sentence on the front side, and the textbook’s definition of the point on the back-side.

When I review I mark as correct if I more or less understand the sentence, but take the time to read the textbook definition (which has points about nuance, common verbs it will be used with etc.) each time to try cement that info too.

The downside to this method is a lot of the time I just skim over new grammar points, don’t check them in the grammar dictionary, and don’t create cards for them. But… I’m always glad when I do!
