Just got a review where the Japanese hint was just the English one again:
In the sentence below is there a round symbol in the sentence below or it is just that my computer is missing some fonts?
I thought regardless of where you get a font, if the your system already has the font locally (the names of the fonts match) , it will use the local font?
The fact that this only happens on the Reviews page is pretty sus… if you’ve indeed turned off all browser plugins and are still getting this it might be something else.
Can you just confirm you’ve tried turning them off?
I’d recommend to Bunpro devs to self-host all required fonts instead of relying on Google Fonts.
Noto Sans in its entirety is like ~8mb unminified, and I don’t know what magic Google Fonts does, but it reduces the load times significantly (by a magnitude of megabytes).
Maybe we’ll one day move away from Google Fonts
Just checked the sentence! That’s intentional – maybe a copyright thing?
Haven’t seen anything like that in a while
It loads only required chunks of the font. You can also make use of this technique by making a chunk of this font with 2000 popular kanji or and making chunks for every 1000 kanji by popularity for the rest of them.
The font only has to be downloaded once and then it will be cached.
Now it still takes ~2 mb to be downloaded.
Yeah I’m not sure how the chunking works with Google.
Anyway looks like we can easily self-host Google Fonts by default when we move to NextJS 13 with the new < Font > component
Just gotta test it out and make sure it works properly for Japanese
Maybe it is just me but… this Bunpro translation below does not make sense. Why the translation does not use the “unique to” meaning of ならでは? That would make sense.
折角日本へ旅行をしに行くのなら、神社やお寺、アニメを コンセプトにしたカフェ等の日本ならではの場所へ行
きたいです。
If I’m going to put in the effort to go to Japan, then I want to go to places that are impossible if not like shrines, temples, and cafes that have been styled after anime.
The web app grammar search are not working.
I went off of vacation mode last week, and I am no longer getting reviews for lessons I did prior to vacation. The only reviews I’m getting are for the 3 lessons I’ve done after returning from vacation.
Not sure if it has been asked before but studying just vocab or grammar isnt working anymore in my case at least. neither is selecting a certain deck working.
any help?
N4 Vocab Deck automatically sets itself as bookmarked when changing settings.
If I go to the setting of N4 vocab deck (unknown if this happens to other decks) and change the review style, the deck automatically sets itself as book marked.
Firefox on Android here. The reviews page shows up just slightly too large to fit in the screen.
When the page is being loaded, I can see that the layout is done in two passes. In the first pass, the page fits perfectly on the screen, then it is immediately laid out again with fonts and everything just slightly too large.
I have no idea when this change happened, but it is recent.
I have the same issue. When I click on “Vocab Reviews”, I get reviews for grammar as well.
I’m not sure if anyone else has this experience, I recently completed the N3 grammar section but I didn’t get the ‘N3 Completion’ badge. Is completing the vocab for N3 also required now?
Same for me for N2
Also, レベルの内訳 thing shows 200 learned N2 grammar points instead of 210.
When editing your notes in the web app, i am unable to have the line break when pressing enter.
It still stay on the same line. It works previously, did the shortcut change or is it a bug? I have tried using different browser but with the same issue.
Same here, but only showing 116 points.
I have patched this. It will be live in the next release (should be out later today).
@Elurchin I reached out via PM.
@Niclas @CosmicGuest I just tried to only review grammar/vocab and also use the learn and review options from decks but wasn’t able to reproduce the issue. Could you please give me a little more information about what is happening on your end? Also if you could share the url you are seeing when you try to study only vocab or grammar, also when trying to learn/review from a deck.
@Immortalsun @HotAirGun I have fixed the issue with the badge not showing. If you remove (which won’t reset) and then re-add a grammar point for a level it should award you the badge. Sorry for the inconvenience. It will be available in the next release (should be out later today).
@HotAirGun @capsaicin The stats should now show the correct number. It will be available in the next release (should be out later today).
@S_S It looks like shift enter works to create a newline
For example. I wanna do my vocab reviews. I click on it, the site loads as usual. The url is “Review | Bunpro – Japanese Grammar Explained” but the first thing that pops up is a grammar question.
Same happens for decks. The url shows the deck id, but still sometimes it shows something from another one.
It doesnt happen all the time. Sometimes i reload the page once, and its fine. Sometimes i have to do that 5,6,7 times.
I use the brave browser which is based on chrome if that helps.
Edit: Something else that might help. I like to do my reviews by decks.
Sometimes i have all my decks finished, no reviews available. But on the main page it says i have open reviews, and when i click on it, there are actually some. But all the decks show 0.
I removed a grammar point and added it back, and still didn’t get N2 badge
