What happens if you enter a translation as your answer, using romaji?

“One thing”

So, that didn’t work either but “one” did. I hate these questions that ask for english answers, because then I have to change my keyboard back and forth. The strange part is that having an alternate answer usually works to avoid this issue, but on the website these kinds of reviews are ignoring other answers. I’m gonna swap to my phone and see if I can run into this one again.

Update: Alternate answers still seem to be working fine on iOS, though I didn’t run into that specific example again yet. Seems to be a website issue.

I’m adding code right now to extract and make available all the alternate answers from the Dictionary Definitions of a Vocab.
This will be out in the coming days.

Annoyingly enough, “one thing” doesn’t exist in the Dictionary Definition (JMDict Definition).

In these instances, you can add your own custom synonym, or even better (for us and the community), make a Report with the suggested alternate.
A lot of the Vocab is still quite knew and in need of some TLC

For now tho I’ve added “one thing” to the list of alternate answers. 🙇‍♂️

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately the issue is that my custom synonyms aren’t being accepted as an answer (on web). Have triple checked that it’s set up properly but no luck. These reviews only seem to accept the original English answer (in this case “one”). They work fine on iOS after adding custom synonyms.

Here’s another example. My answer is on the list but isn’t working.

Ahhh sorry, just checked your account – I didn’t understand your issue properly.

I think I see what you mean. You want to use Japanese synonyms?
Unfortunately yeah we don’t accept any non-English input for this yet!

You’ll need to change it to English for now unfortunately…

Oh…what?! Right back to iOS for me I guess haha! Borderline unusable unfortunately because I have so many new non-JLPT words and I’ve already been going through and adding Hiragana answers. Sorry for the confusion.

I followed up with this internally.
This is a bug with the iOS version of the app, which will be getting patched soon.

For this style of Answering, we will only support English to avoid causing more confusion for users.

Have you thought about using the Reveal & Grade (Good / Hard) system for these questions?
This mode will hide the furigana pre-reveal, allowing you to answer it in your head before the answer is revealed to you. You won’t be able to input the answer like you do now, but it will still test your J > J translation skill. Also, it should save you time by not needing to input synonyms for every future Vocab word you add.

Yeah, once it’s patched I’ll definitely move to the reveal and grade for those words I think. My kana keyboard doesn’t show romaji so it’s a pain to swap it just to answer certain questions. Something that might help is a hint on the question itself that an English response is expected?

Just for clarification, by reveal and grade do you mean “Flashcard” for answer input? Edit: Yep, seems to be it :+1:

Here’s an example of a review that’s almost impossible to pass because the sentence goes off the screen and so the word being tested is off the screen.

I can’t find a way to display the missing part, unfortunately (without doing things like copying and pasting the sentence into another app).

What’s the target word in that sentence?
Will try dig it up to figure what’s wrong with it.

You’re on FF right?

Looks like it’s 仕組み!
It’s on Safari.

Btw, this isn’t the only sentence that the same situation happens for (I’ve reported a few over time).

Not sure if anyone else is running into this today, but every time I’ve done reviews today I’ve run into this page when exiting to the summary page:

There also don’t appear to be any additional details under the Advanced Error Details section. Happening both on web (Firefox) and Mobile (Safari).

I just reported a bug for one of the lessons. Now when I try to go to the Your Feedback page, it just gives an “Internal Error, Looks like something went wrong on our end.” page. The page shows no error details.

Happens both on desktop Firefox and android chrome.

What was the last feedback you submitted that broke the page?
I’m trying to sleuth it out now 🕵🏻‍♂️

I don’t know if it was this specific feedback that broke it, but this is the last one I reported.

  • It was for this lesson: ってば・ったら (JLPT N1) | Bunpro
  • I sent it using the bottom “Send feedback” button, not for a specific sentence. Type: “bug or typo”
  • I was on the “Learn” page, i.e. the URL was https://bunpro.jp/learn?deck_id=11
  • Its content was (I usually type it out in ms word for spell check, and copy paste it into the form, so I had it saved):
The two examples in the Caution section: 「金太郎ってば…」 and 「あなたったら」, the play button disappears when the language of the lesson is set to Japanese.

I did not get any errors while sending it.

Thanks for the report. It’s likely a broken audio URL.
If you can let me know what the Advanced Error Details says and when this happens again, I’ll look into it!

Was able to replicate.
Should be fixed on next release!

The issue seems to have resolved itself after a day. Unfortunately, there was nothing showing under the Advanced Error Details section whenever I checked, so can’t provide any more insight into what might have been the issue. If I run into it again I’ll let you know!
