Feedback - Suggested Improvements/Feature Request

Welcome to the forums!

Besides the examples in the grammar writeups themselves, all grammar points should have 12 example sentences (these are used during reviews, so you should be tested on all 12 when using the SRS). We are actually adding even more sentences for lower level grammar points as well.

You can find these sentences by scrolling down to “Examples” on any given grammar point page.

This is actually really good advice. If we’re being real here, my issue isn’t with the difficulty of the translations. It’s that, if I get a single review item wrong, then I’m the dumbest person alive, completely worthless, will never amount to anything, and no one will ever love me.

So maybe I can just chill instead of expecting the Bunpro team to rewrite 10,000s of example sentences to accommodate my insecurities.

I’ll still love you even if you get a single review item wrong <3

Don’t beat yourself up over reviews. Every mistake in a review is a mistake avoided in real life, in a potentially more consequential area. The 10-30 seconds to do a review again is worth it. I find it easy to get emotional over mistakes too so I fully understand how you feel. I’ve just accepted (the way I do reviews) if I get a sentence wrong because I’ve not seen the word before, then I need to do the review again. This is much harder if you’re still learning your first several thousand vocab, though. If the default settings for Bunpro (lose one SRS level per wrong review is applied) it’s still easy to make progress, since this setting is pretty generous.

Also the new features which check vocab completion for each grammar point really help with this.

Your original comment was on point. Many of the questions are unnecessarily difficult or misleading, which distracts from learning the grammar and instead focuses on learning Bunpro.

That said, I don’t think that Bunpro needs to ‘fix’ all these sentences. Instead, they need give us the ability to add a custom ‘hint’ to a question card.

Hi! I want to suggest two new functions for decks:

  1. I want a feature to quickly add vocab from decks to my queue. Currently on IOs it looks like “scroll deck, open word, add to Reviews, go back to deck” and I want something like “scroll deck, long press on word, add to Reviews”. Usually I scroll and add, not learn, custom decks, so it would be nice function I think
  2. I want a new filter function for decks, not just Learned/Not learned, but “JLPT-N”. It would be helpful when you scroll, for example, Anime 4k Deck, and search for N2 words inside.

Thanks!

Brought this up a few months ago, and every day I keep hoping to see a button to play audio associated with the N1 Reading Practices. N5 has it, so the functionality exists. Could this be done? お願いします。

I love everything else about Bunpro. If this were enabled, for me, it would be perfect.

It’ll definitely be on it’s way!
I’m not sure on the timing, but yeah it’s coming

Thank you so much.

Hey, is there currently a way to cram (repeat examples of) new vocabulary after the lesson batch is done? I mean a “cram items” option similar to the one that exists for reviews, which appears at the marked position in the screenshot.

I recently started the N3 vocab deck and the question type changed from Jap → English reading translation to English → Japanese writing production (is that a setting that I can influence somewhere?) so it became significantly harder to do the first reviews without an initial practice session.

Thanks and sorry if I missed some obvious buttons!

At the moment no there isn’t; I only speak for myself, but probably wouldn’t get added just because it’d likely interfere with the intended early SRS stages. Better to offer the option to Cram after someone has gotten something wrong so they can better learn from their mistake, than when they first learn I suppose. Might be a way we can add a ‘Recently Learned’ dropdown into Cram under the Special tab, but I’d have to discuss with the rest of the team next week and see if there’s any interest there.

If you go inside of your Deck and click this button circled in green then scroll down to the bottom, what Review Type is that displaying for you? Hopefully that’s a quick lil’ fix to your problem, but if there’s more trouble just let me know and we’ll figure it out! :man_mechanic:

Why not use something like “in addition” for the English translation of this grammar point, instead of making me think of other grammar points (に限らず? ) that more closely reflect the English translation? It’s hard enough remembering all grammars points that mean similar things and where to apply each, now you make me reverse engineer a natural English translation. That is to say maybe the most natural translation is not the best fit for the purpose of learning grammar.

Heya,
Any ETA on the “reading type review” availability of Ax vocab sentences ? Most of the early ones (A1-2-3) seem to have exemple sentences now, so it’s a bit frustrating to still not be able to add them because those sentences don’t show up in reading type review mode. I have the biggest Ax backlog bookmarked and can’t wait to actually add those to my reviews

I’m in the same boat as you.

I spam the people in charge of this maybe every 2 days, but still haven’t got any ETA.
I believe other projects are being prioritized at the moment

Thanks for the honest answer. Here’s hoping your spamming will eventually work out then :crossed_fingers:

I’m not sure if this is already buried in a grammar point somewhere, but it might be useful to have an entry on how features are described. For example, ‘明子さんは緑の目をしている’/‘Akiko-san has green eyes’.

There are a lot of entries on the different ways する can be used, but I haven’t seen this one.

I also wonder if it might be worth it to have like a little index of all the entries about a given verb.

The draft of this exact grammar point has already been written but hasn’t been published yet. It’s like you read my mind…

Is there a way to edit/replace keybinds? I hit the Zero key instead of - at least once a session, which triggers the “do you want to end your session?” pop-up. It’s pretty annoying, and I don’t really have a need for an end session hot button anyway.
