Feedback - Suggested Improvements/Feature Request

I’d like to have an option to remove the progress bar in reviews completely, because whenever I look at it, I start dreading the next reviews I’ll have to do.

Would be great if vocab details listed other words using the same kanji, so you can make a mental note of their connection and difference

Is it possible to add a “save cram settings” option so that I don’t need to go through all the settings every time I cram daily?

I usually for example cram beginner level grammar points and also the troubled grammar points daily, and some other extra settings as well, it would be nice to make it into a one click button after setting a preference.

Add a place to add antonyms on vocab pages like you have the ability to add synonyms.

I associate many words in English together like this… Light and dark. Hot and cold. Black and white… Etc.

I think being able to have a note for さむい on the page for あつい for example, or 上げる and 下げる together make it easier to associate and remember vocab and associate words.

Good point. Will ask internally.
This definitely is an error.

This will come in the future when we add Vocab clickability to all sentences in Bunpro.

It has only limited coverage now, but it allows instant adding to Reviews, meaning and progress checks.

Welcome to the community!

  1. I agree with this sentiment
  2. You’re asking for a reverse EN → JA manual-input mode? This is something we have discussed in the past. One day we will likely implement it.
  3. That’s fair enough. We are hurrying to get to 100% sentence coverage.
  4. This is on the cards too.
  5. What do you mean by this?
  6. This already exists – check the cog in the top left while doing Reviews! You can order your Reviews here.

Can it be made so that I can use ‘x’ to represent a little tsu? Like on a standard romaji keyboard.

A tried all the standard ways to type in っ (ltu, ltsu, xtu, xtsu), and all worked for me.

Or are you trying to type just x, without anything after it? That wouldn’t work, b/c xa = ぁ, xya = ゃ etc.

You’re right, I definitely misremembered how it works on Romaji (I usually use the Kana keyboard)

More search filters and faster, and more accurate search
The search functionality is really useful as is, but I feel like there could be some improvements made to make the experience more pleasant overall.

Speed
Currently, the search takes multiple seconds depending on your search filters, which of course is a very minor issue

Accuracy
Sometimes when searching up specific things, the most relevant search results aren’t what I’m actually searching for

More filters
Ability to filter by POS (Noun, na adjective, i adjective, etc.)
Starts with, contains and ends with
Filter by learned

The ability to review items from a specific deck only.

This might seem like an odd request so I’ll explain why.

I’ve recently decided to start using BunPro to review vocab as well as grammar. So I’ve reset my WaniKani sync, and now all my WK vocab has arrived on BunPro as “seasoned”. I’m WK level 14 so I have about 1500 reviews to get through!… that’s ok as I think the sentence practice will be worth it.

At the same time, I decided to start studying the Yotsuba deck. I love the look of the comic and it’s supposed to be great for beginner readers so I want to be able to prioritise the vocab from that deck in some learning sessions.

If I want to study new cards from the Yotsuba deck I can choose to study from that deck only, no problem.

However, if I want to review the Yotsuba cards only… that’s not possible. The handful of Yotsuba cards I’ve learned are mixed up with 1500 pending reviews of WK vocab.

I appreciate my situation is a bit of an edge case. But it would be nice if we could choose which deck we are going to review cards from, the same way we can choose which deck to learn new cards from.

@discopatrick If I’m understanding this correctly, I think Bunpro might already have this implemented? I apologize if I’m slightly confused on what you’re describing, but there might be two options which can help you.

If you only want to review cards from the Yotsuba deck, you can go to “Decks” and in the area where all the decks are listed there should be a button in the bottom right of each deck that looks like [Review 16], Meaning there are 16 items in that deck available for review. Alternative you could go to “Cram” and pick Yotsuba deck under “Non-JLPT” and either add the whole thing, or just specific vocab to review.

I am optioned into Beta testing stuff, so I apologize if what I’m describing is a Beta feature and I didn’t realize.

Would it be feasible to add a “typing” mode to the graded reading exercises? This request is partially based on my experience with the website TypeLit.io. It lets you type through novels (or anything you upload with a subscription) and I’ve found it’s incredible for my reading comprehension skills.

Unfortunately, they don’t support Japanese, but maybe Bunpro would have the coding chops to make it happen? It would be very cool to be able to type out a whole sentence and get mistakes marked by Bunpro. I feel like it would be a great exercise for those days when you’re a little too burned out for real reviews, but want immersion that’s a bit more toothy than watching videos. It also feels like realistic practice for something you might actually do when say, working in Japan, emailing a Japanese pen pal, using Google Japan… etc.

For now, I’m pulling up a word processor and just typing out the sentences I see on Bunpro. It works quite well, but I just thought it might be even cooler to directly integrate!

This is only a small pain point for me, but I notice that in some lessons, the explanations referring to (A), (B) and so on don’t really click with me. Perhaps because it is not visualized or exemplified what (A) and (B) are. I wonder if there is a way to visualize a sentence structure that includes A and B, so that we can refer to it as we read the explanations.

You’re right! I had gone looking for this on the deck’s main page. But it is indeed present in the decks list. Thanks!

Fantastic! So glad I was able to help and not faceplant instead. Happy learning. ^~^/

Not sure if this has been suggested before, but I’d like a feature, which makes it so new reviews are only set once per day.

I usually study once a day, but the time can vary by a few hours, which leads to tons of reviews arriving while I’m studying (as 24 hours have passed since the last review).

Sometimes I have very few reviews, when I studied particularly late the previous day.

It would help a lot if the reviews are set on a per-day basis.

I also study a lot around midnight, which means sometimes I do new lessons after 1 am, which results in them counting for the next day, as the new lesson queue resets at 1 am.

I’d would be great if we could configure the daily reset time as well.

Hello, longtime fan and user here.
I often find myself blanking on a review, so I have essentially 2 Choices:
a) type in something wrong, just to progress my session
b) wrap up my session and start a new one, hoping not to encounter the word I am blanking on again

Usually I go for b), which makes it so I have multiple summarys.
In that sense I’d like to request a skip button, which puts said review to the end at the queue.
I think that makes sense, as if you blank on a grammar point or word in real life you can often go for alternative ways of expressing what you want to say, but you can’t do so in reviews (or tests for that matter).

Thanks again for your hard work on this amazing system that carries my Japanese Journey!
