Feedback - Suggested Improvements/Feature Request

Is there a way to play vocab audio by itself during reviews? I like seeing the sentences in reading mode, but I really need to hear the vocab word as I see it on card flip to burn it into my brain. But does the other modes not have single vocab audio either?

I’m really hoping the voice actors will be recording the vocab word by itself too, and later be able to use that on card flip auto play (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤

This is something I really wish was also in the info pages when learning new words (individual word audio for pronunciation). I like to listen to a word after reading it myself and sounding it out.

Automatically playing the vocab word during reviews would be a really massive improvement for me too.

(Even just playing the TTS of the vocab automatically would be brilliant for now)

Please consider merging the vocab articles about particles and common phrases with the corresponding grammar article about that particle or phrase. For example, を | Bunpro should probably just point to を (JLPT N5) | Bunpro

Feature request: I’d suggest implementing user-defined tags for each grammar item, so we can filter them out to needs that we personally deem relevant and highlight interconnected grammar points for better acquisition. I’m not using Bunpro for vocab but I’d imagine that would be especially useful for that too (e.g. filter words by lexical field, semantic value, etc.).

Just a wish really, I’d love to have Kodansha Kanji Learner’s Course vocab, or graded reader sentence decks on the site.
I have tried adding decks myself but it doesn’t seem to work out how I want.
There is an app called Kanji Study that has the sentences available as a paid add-on, but it is not available on ios.

I just discovered focus mode, which is great. I only wish I was also able to hide the progress bar with it.

I would find it helpful if there was a back button for reviews. I often… very often, find myself accidentally marking vocab words wrong because of simple typos. It makes me wish there was a way to go back, type it in correctly, and then move on but I’m forced to just leave it marked wrong. It’s not the end of the world but it’s annoying.

I know the review system already gives you time to fix it before you hit next, but sometimes after doing enough correct ones in a row the muscle memory will cause me to hit next before I’m actually done making sure I spelled it correctly.

I’m having this issue but in my case I keep forgetting to change SRS levels at that point! Muscle memory sucks sometimes :joy:

Good idea!
Will add this in the next update!

How about Meaning and Reading Mnemonics for Vocab?

Wanikani has these and they are helpful when you first see the vocab.
Example: https://www.wanikani.com/vocabulary/入る

Not sure how is it going to be populated.
Maybe user-contribution?

I think it would be nice to have more personalization in the style we review our grammar points. For instance, I want all my “expert” to lose any hint, but my seasoned to show only hints in Japanese.

Also, it would be cool if in the “master” grammar points we can combine two or more grammar points, or vocabulary. So, two lines to be filled. This could also be done in a different section called “writing” similar to the reading part, but instead of just reading, completing the story according to the grammas points of that lesson or/and previous lessons.

One thing that just came to mind was how when I first visited Japan I had a very hard time reading in the wild, because the font is so different to the standard and easy style I was accustomed to with iOS (like cursive in English). Handwritten? I don’t know what it’s called…anyway I’d love to see font options to get more exposure to harder to read fonts, especially Kanji!

Little example from another reader app I’ve been using:

First I’d like to start with a compliment. I absolutely love Bunpro. The focus on producing an answer instead of recalling a reading is great, and has gone a long way to improve my grammar in ways other programs and books have failed to (or failed to motivate me to).

One thing that would be nice is a reading/recall for vocab, and that having a different progress than the producing. Being able to remember how a word sounds and writing it out in kana is important, but you’ll also need to be able to read these vocab words in the wild.

I understand there is an option to change a review type, but I think it would be really helpful to be able to have both. To be able to have to have versions of the card I read and try to recall the reading/meaning, and the fill in blank where it gives me the meaning.

Mnemonics and notes are something that lots of folks have suggested be community-driven, I.e. having a create and share system.

Much like how Memrise does it (did it? – I haven’t used Memrise in forever).

Hi. Maybe this has been suggested already, but please break down the kanji (radicals and component kanji) in the vocabulary pages. It would greatly help in remembering words.

I think that that would be a great addition.

Wow, that would be amazingly helpful, but it would also be an insanely amount of work, I guess.
