Feedback - Suggested Improvements/Feature Request

Add the ability to do bookmarked vocab review on iOS application. Currently all bookmarked vocab appear as <title: meaning> and it does not have all of the sections in the special section like on the website.

Another suggestion: add a button to cram that lets you cram all topics associated with your current set of ghosts.

Suggestion: in the “content to cram” special section, add the option to filter SRS types into grammar or vocab only. So that it’s possible to add only SRS Master vocab without adding the SRS Master grammar, for example.

Explanation:
I’ve been using Bunpro and Wanikani side-by-side and syncing WK to Bunpro so my vocab progress shows on Bunpro. I like that feature a lot. The other day I realised I wanted to practice my English-to-Japanese ability, and figured I could create a cram session with all the vocab that’s set to Master due to the Wanikani sync. This makes cramming a really powerful vocab tool in tandem with Wanikani. I was positively excited by this new way to use the cram feature. Right now I don’t have any grammar in the Master stage, but once I do, it’ll start mixing in with the vocab if I make a cram session like that. It’d be great to be able to cram SRS Master vocab separately from grammar.

Upon re-reading my post above, I realise the way I wrote it is pretty unclear. Because a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s what I mean in a picture:

I know scripts exist for this, but please add a default pause upon entering a wrong answer, so I don’t double tap my way through answers that I think I’m correct on.

I can’t rely on scripts because of the policies of the network at work. A default pause on wrong answer feature would be appreciated, and should be default as is.

I believe this has been suggested before and I agree it would be an awesome addition to the cram function. While we wait for it to be implemented though, you can check out this thread for somewhat of a workaround to this issue.

Thanks! That’s a pretty clever workaround!

I think an “undo” option would be even better and would cover more usecases.

I think I’ve found an issue in the 「お兄さん」vocab card. The yellow prompt that comes up if you try to enter 「兄」prompts you to use a more casual word - shouldn’t it be asking for a more formal word instead?

Sorry if this isn’t the correct place to post this, but N4 - 7: Let’s Get Polite seems like it could use some work. The review items use language like ‘formal conjunctive’, ‘kenjougo’ and ‘sonkeigo’, but there’s no mention of what any of this means in the lessons. In the examples provided/review items, there seem to be exceptions to what’s outlined in the lesson without any explanation why. Links are broken in the additional resources. All of this just adds a layer of unnecessary difficulty to an already difficult topic.

A feature I would like is being able to set the SRS limits to each level. Or maybe it exists, but I couldn’t find “more frequent reviews” in the settings. When first covering something I like more repetitions, before they get further spaced.
For instance, let’s say the SRS is 5 iterations at the beginning level, and it would move into the adept afterwards. The time the item is set at beginning level is 2 total days based on the SRS gaps. I would like to keep that total gap time but say amp it into 10 repetitions in the same accumulated time. (This is a bit specific, but just a rough guess.)

Additionally or Alternatively, I’d like the option to graduate a point/word, or rather to have a point/word not graduate to the next tier to keep the SRS tighter on that point/word until I want it to progress.

If there are similar options, please point me in the right direction. If not maybe others would agree for such options and they’d be considered for development.

Thanks, really enjoying Bunpro so far!

Would it be possible to implement a feature that lets you choose multiple review modes? I.e. flash card style translation of vocab but mixed with input of vocab into example sentences? I find learning to recognize the kanji important but also would love to be able to mix it out with some proper use cases of the vocab.
Thank you!

You can change the review mode, but if you meant a random between the different types, I didn’t see one.
Settings>Display&Reviews>Defaults>Pen Icon for either Grammar or Vocab.

Admittedly the options are few, as I’d like a randomly generated MC type occasionally. Fill-ins are tough but they say better for retention.
Hope that helps.

Is it possible to add comments to the Community Deck JMDict Importer?

Current Input

# Episode 6
1382430
2034320
1164510

Desired Input

Any way of specifying comments is fine. ‘#’ is just an example.

# Episode 6
1382430 #昔話
2034320 #きっかけに
1164510 #一体

Reason

  • I’m sending my text to jpdb to parse.
  • Then, I’m extracting jmdict ids from jpdb.
  • But, sometimes, JPDB gives IDs such as 2034320 which don’t exist in Bunpro

In this case, I will be converting “きっかけに” to “きっかけ”.
Just nice to have so that I can immediately figure out what is my original word.
Bonus if you can have the comment appear in the Missing Item. Something like “ID 2034320 #きっかけに

It could be good to balance lines of text during reviews to some extent so, for example, you don’t end up with one rather long followed by one very short, e.g.

I’ve seen it mentioned before but I’d love an optional setting that allows me to still be quized on items I already have mastered. Right now I have to manually change to a lower one when something reaches master.

I’d like to be able to set separate SRS strictness levels for grammar and vocab. For example, half for grammar and -3 for vocab.

ことわざ 諺 deck would be really nice!

Hey there, don’t know if you’re still having the full hint problem for vocab on iOS, but I stumbled across a workaround. If you set the “Vocab Hint Order” under Settings > Display & Reviews > Defaults to “Nuance First” it shows the full hint. Not sure why this works, but I hope this helps!

For the past few days, every time I visit the session summary page, my remaining reviews number in the site’s navbar is 1 higher than the actual amount. When I return to the dashboard, my remaining reviews number decreases by one again to the actual amount. This is on Firefox iOS. Feel free to do a review of mine or anything if you need to debug it.
