Feedback - Suggested Improvements/Feature Request

I’m loving the new cosmetic/profile update — it looks great!

To make the shop experience even better, I’d love to suggest a few small improvements for easier navigation:

  • Add filter options, especially for Pins and Titles:
    – Show Owned / Not Owned items
    – Add sorting by price (low to high, high to low)
  • Add a progress bar to visualize collection progress — seeing how close I am to 100% a category is super motivating!

Thanks for the amazing update so far! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

For now, i’ll use my python script ^^

Thanks for the feedback!

We’ve discussed your point your feedback internally, and will likely add a few more sentences to help ease users into this Grammar Point!

sorry if this was requested before but it would be great if you could customize the flashcard cram a bit. I would love one that just plays audio before you flip it for practicing single vocab audio, or at the very least let the audio be playable before flipping. would that be possible in the future?

Another one, if there was a way to do regular reviews in more than one style at once it would be perfect. My issue is that I have to pick from either doing ‘japanese to english’ or ‘english to japanese’ in a sense. If I could choose both the regular sentence style as well as the one where you just write the english defenition of the japanese word alone that would be awesome. Not sure on implementation of that though, whether it would randomly assign one of the styles to each word when reviewing or if it would be possible to do double reviews like wanikani, so you’re tested both ways for each (essentially doubling review count). Just some ideas anyway!

That is great to hear.
But, that grammar point is merely an example, of many grammar points, I have come across that are having the exact same problem.

Would it be possible to add a one time switch review method within the review settings?

such as, I have my grammer to type in.

I wanna power through them one night and switch to reading them. Would it be possible to do a quick change in settings WITHOUT altering the global settings so that the next few hours return to type in?

Feature Request: Have translations auto reveal themselves.

I’ve just discovered Bunpro and I am loving it, feels like a great complement to WaniKani and the Genki Books.

What I’d really love though on the reviews is to see what word I need to translate, and then hitting enter after a correct answer reveals the full translation of the sentence?

I’ve set it to default to the first hint level which is just the word/grammar it wants and then you can click the hints button to get to the full sentence translation. But then you need to remember to click four more times on the hint button to get back to just showing the word.

My reason for wanting this is that I want to practice reading the whole sentence, and then use the full translation to see if I was correct.

@danpos2506 Not sure if I understood you correctly, but would it help if you changed your review type to “read” and “self grade”?

Welcome to Bunpro! Just to clarify one thing, if you press Hint once (or press Spacebar) it’ll show the sentence’s translation like you brought up, but regardless of what Hint level you’re on when you answer a question, when you go to the next question it will automatically reset back to your desired level. In this instance, you’d just need to press Spacebar (or Hint) once to get the translation for each sentence.

Might be some automation we can do on our backend, I’ll take a crack at it tomorrow and see if it makes sense or not! I’ve thought about it in the past before as well but I suppose I got used to just pressing the button once + no one else has really brought it up before.

Hey thanks for the reply! I didn’t know about pressing space, that’s great! I definitely prefer using bunpro on my PC so thats sort of solved my issue.

I think also what I thought was happening when it got “stuck” was on grammar reviews it gives the full sentence translated, but if the next review is vocab it resets back to just showing the word translation.

Having it be automatic if its an easy toggle would be interesting though for sure, especially on the mobile app.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Hmmm, interesting. Could you let me know what your Hint settings currently are for Vocab? You can find it either inside Reviews with the cogwheel (pic 1) or inside of your main Settings > Review page (pic 2).

Just want to make sure there’s not a bug or anything relating to these levels for both grammar and vocab. :male_detective:

Here are my settings. I think what I thought was a bug was maybe not one - the issue i described with it no resetting was me not realising that the Grammar Translation hint shows the whole sentence translated vs just the bit in red.

You can see here, it defaults to number 2 of 4 in the hints and reveals the full sentence:

vs the vocab deck defaulting to hint level 1 of 4:

Ok I’m an idiot I see that Grammar Hint is set to “show” - sorry about that.

Ok so that makes sense and with the spacebar press on PC that’s achieved what I wanted, though an option to have it automatically reveal the full translation would be great especially on mobile

Thanks!

Hey, not sure if this was ever requested, but I’d like a way to have days off set on a calendar and/or scheduled to happen ever X day.

I know I can already achieve this by enabling vacation mode, and that is exactly what I do today, but it is tricky as I have to exit vacation mode at the same hour I entered it if I don’t want to mess with my review hours.

Personally I always study from Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 9 AM. So if my reviews start popping up at, like, 10 AM I miss them for the day so usually I have to be careful with the vacation mode.

What I needed was a way to say: “skip every Saturday” and “skip day X” (holiday, birthday, convoluted day). Like requesting a PTO from my reviews haha. That would automatically move all my reviews forward by exactly 24 hours.

My biggest motivation today is that doing reviews on Saturday is not good. I do them in a hurry or not really paying attention, so it would just be better to skip the day and do everything next day. But not accumulate.

As a busy parent, this is an idea I’d love that I hadn’t considered at all until your comment🤞

I reckon the details section should be above the dictionary definition section. Seeing as there’s already a definition directly under the word, it’d be more helpful to be able to immediately see the pitch accent without scrolling instead of basically the exact same definition a second time.

Also the details section is always short but the dictionary definition section is sometimes quite long.

In the vocabulary SRS with the review type Reading - Reveal and Grade. It would be nice to have when revealing the answer, the prononciation and the main meanings of the word on screen, because every time I need to scroll down a bit to see that and for hundreds and hundreds of reviews it’s making me lose a lot of time.

More generally I think the vocabulary reviews should be more customizable. I believe that we can replace all of the review types with 2 review types : one fill in review type and then a very customizable review type (that replace both the translate and the reading type) that let us choose if we want to have an exemple sentence, if this sentence is on the back or on the front, if we want to have a cloze input or not, if we want to have two separated cards for the meaning and the reading… (I also think that it’s a problem that the translate review type only asks for the meaning and not the reading)

i feel like when searching for words it should also search inside the “forms” boxes that show different ways of writing a word.
Some time ago I searched for 天道虫 to add it to my vocab but the search didn’t bring anything up. today I learned that that’s a rare way of writing it and usually it’s てんとう虫 and with that I did find the vocab for ladybug as I wanted. Then I see in the forms box for the vocab that the way I searched it some time ago is written there but is ignored by the search. Same thing happened with the old way of writing 虫, 蟲.

Hello
I couldn’t find ピチピチ in the onomatopoeia deck.
Maybe it’s worth adding ?
Thanks for your help!

are we doing missing onomatothingies? I noticed プルプル is missing, too. even though it was in an example sentence of プリン. It’s such a freebie, that I instantly wanted to add it to my reviews
