August 23rd Translation

Notes :
さわらないで、 or ふれないで? Both of these words have the same kanji, and are very easy to get confused. Most of the time, さわる will be used in situations where the person ‘touching’ has a strong intention to touch, and they are ‘physically handling’ the object. ふれる is most often used with the meaning on ‘contact’, as in a light touch, or unintentional touch.

summary

I’ll act in place of your eyes. Left! Left!

I never would have figured this out with Hot Air Gun. The 左よ左!! feels obvious in hindsight, but I was so tripped out on that given the (lack) of spacing and punctuation.

use

私の代わりに妹が卵を買っていく。それで、掃除する。私が家から出るのが好きじゃないから、嬉しい!

Edit: After missing a review… I probably should have used かいにいく. Not quite sure on the differences here. FML

I’ll be your eyes instead! Left Left!

I have gotten 代わりに wrong so many times lately in my reviews, just wasn’t sticking. Funny how today’s passage uses it! Still tripped me up a bit, but based on the other answers I think I’m in the right direction.

I’ll go buy eggs instead of my younger sister. That being said, she can clean. Because I don’t like leaving my house, this will be fun.

Last sentence was a complete and utter guess LOL. I can piece every individual part together but for some reason the overall sentence isn’t making much sense to me. Curious to see what is is!

Because I’m bad, lol. You pretty much had it, but it looks like I messed up the subjects again and the rest of the poor phrasing was me not really knowing the right way to say these things.

I was trying to go for something along the lines of:

My little sister is going out to buy eggs instead of me. Because of that, I will clean. Since I don’t like going out of the house I’m happy!

Hahaha I hope I didn’t imply it didn’t make sense because of your ability, it was mostly how different から can be used. Great example though!!

太鼓の達人を遊ぶ代わりに日本語の文を書くつもりだ。

Instead of me, my younger sister will get eggs. Then, (she will) clean. Since I don’t like to leave home, I am happy (she went instead).

Edit

Well, I did terrible today…I really didn’t understand the situation of what was going on.

Notes :
In this panel we can see the use of の代わりに, the variant of this grammar point which is much more common in spoken language. にかわり is the formal version that would usually follow a noun, and is almost exclusively found in books.

That/it was seven years ago. I guess I don’t mind even if you read it.

Tricky! Seeing the point shortened and the addition of だろう was interesting.

Oh, that is two sentences. No wonder the grammar looked sloppy

Notes :
This is another example of where a sentence stops without actually having a full stop. If you translate the sentence and it doesn’t really make sense, try putting a full stop after one of the lines and seeing if that helps. That will usually help you find the correct translation.

As the rules for punctuation in Japanese are far different than English, it is best not to assume that if punctuation ‘isn’t there’, it ‘shouldn’t be there’. Japanese sentences are built primarily on a 主語 (main word)(similar to a ‘subject’ in English), and a 述語 (action word)(similar to a verb in English). If the sentence you are reading does not have both, then ignore the surrounding punctuation, as it will probably be only for artistic purposes.
