→ They might be talking about an event, a person or possibly a combination of these. Read only a few hundred chapters years ago so no clue where this is from but could be Ippo seeing Takamura losing interest in boxing or the “long-awaited fight” with his rival possibly never working out for whatever reason etc. leading him to wonder why he picked up boxing in the first place even, if now “XYZ cant happen anymore or his trigger/aim is taken away in front of him…:”?
Mostly speculation on my side for fun what I think is actually being conveyed in just this one sentence if you consider context a bit. Hope I am not too wrong with this x)
