I certainly don’t fully understand the deeper nuance though! I do find it helpful though to think of many of these grammar points in terms of what smaller particles they are made up of, instead of just lots of new individual words. Asher’s explanations and posts helps that along as well

While this sign does not actually use だが, we thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce ただし, another grammar point (that we don’t have on the site yet!) which can be thought of as an even more formal equivalent of だが.

Like だが, it is more commonly written than spoken, and is the equivalent of ‘provided that’ in English. だが and ただし are almost always interchangeable for one and other.

Actually it is たくなる, in order to express the change (I came to want to…). I am not sure it is correct, though, to use なる with the たい-form.
