Notes :
In Japanese, there are many unique words for ‘types’ and ‘variations’ of things, where English would usually just use ‘type’/‘sort’. When translating, thinking of them all as basically the same thing, or even translating them all to exactly the same thing would sound quite natural.

Since we have a good preservation of its fossil we can fully understand it. Its jaw had no teeth and its mouth had become like a bird’s beak. Fossils were discovered from within huge footprints of sauropods.

Limusaurus (Mud’s lizard)
We know about them in details because of good preservation of their fossils. They didn’t have teeth in the jaw, it became something like a bird’s beak. Their fossils was found inside a footprint of a very large sauropod.

Since there is good fossil preservation, the details are understood. Regards to the jaw, there is no teeth but becomes more like a bird’s beak. In the process, extra large sauropod foot print fossils were discovered.

As noted in a previous GrammarInTheWild, books that are for children will often omit many kanji, but how do they choose what to omit, and what to keep? Usually it is based off the kanji that kids are expected to have already learnt in school, but sometimes difficult words like 竜脚類 will be kept, as they would be difficult to understand without the kanji for reference, despite kids not being exposed to some of the kanji yet.

又 and 又は are usually considered to be two different grammar points with two different meanings (from the perspective of English). However, in both cases, また keeps it’s standard meaning. Can you guess how the は changes the nuance of this grammar point?
